I don’t think a lot of people understand the goal of the Legacy projects so let me explain: the goal is to fix the games in their ORIGINAL image. That means working to highlight what Pokemon were in these games, not bringing in a bunch of brand new stuff that would make the games feel like a romhack. We’re trying to be as quiet is possible in just fixing the game as though it was still released when it did, but just as an improved version.
These are not modernization hacks and never have been. We’re not adding new Pokemon or Moves or changing pokemon types – we never have done this, as adding new pokemon overshadows the pokemon of this game.
I think a lot of people put their own subjective views of what they want in a romhack on the Legacy project, without actually understanding the goals of the project. A project is only as strong as its restrictions, and the reason a lot of y’all like Legacy is because we hold back and keep things feeling relatively vanilla. Hope that makes sense!
we really needed a good XY rom hack
You better not mess up my girl Shauna. That fireworks scene was my favorite!
I read the title and was hoping for a Sun/Moon Legacy… arguably the worst entry in the series.
Not gonna lie, I throught he was taking about SWSH as first
Honestly, the thing I'm hoping for is mostly just fixing the apparent incapability for most of the regions trainers to use more than three Pokémon. Shauna/Calem are the only rivals to do so, and Lysandre, elite four, and the champion are the only major bosses that use more than three. Pretty sure there's barely any six vs six matches in the original games.
That and balanced exp share. I remember settling on a team of six early, and ended up being ten levels higher for most of the game because I fought everyone and caught stuff.
How the hell could anyone consider x and y to be the worst games? They were amazing games. What really needs fixed is the tire fire that was gen 5
Love megas and really looking forward to this! X&Y being too easy and weirdly paced really detracted from the game and I'm happy to see it fixed!
ok, so you have pointed out every issue you and your team (and the community as a whole) have with the game, but never told us your planned changes/fixes for your legacy romhack. was this on purpose? is there another video coming? are you expecting people to just find out for themselves by playing your hack? i, and im sure many others, would appreciate knowing your planned fixes/changes beforehand. thats kind of what i thought this vid would do: state the problem, present the solution, but all it did was state the problems.
Do you ever release it as a cartridge to be played on the hand held consoles?
26:14 an aneurism really 🤣
Literally playing Y again for my Origin Form Living Dex. I’ve already played through X first for the exclusives. Just ran Mega Lucario and a Tyrantrum the entire time. For Y I wanted to try and build a team using Pokémon I know get megas in ZA and using Kalos only Pokémon.
Well, my team devolved into a Greninja, Talonflame, Goodra, Aegislash, and a Sylveon. I could never seem to find a team member to finish the roster. Noivern and Dragalgae come too late to offer any value and their move-sets and stats aren’t great for how late they evolve. I really don’t like Goodra either. I would’ve used a Salamence if I wasn’t doing the Kalos rule because it’s just superior in every way.
Just an aside but despite years of playing modded games, I have NEVER been able to get a patched 3ds game to work on my N3DS. I hope you have a heck of a video tutorial for this one.
Dude baited us by making the thumbnail look like pokemon Ruby. Hatred of Pokemon Ruby will never be tolerated.
great video
You keep using a GBA cart in the graphics. I assume this will be a 3DS rom?
My question is how is this going to be emulated.
For me, I actually like playing these games on original hardware when possible, but if this is 3DS exclusive then I might be out of luck.
Playing DS and 3DS games on a computer or phone is going to be a bit troublesome for me.
Are you going to consider something of a demake so everything is on one screen? Or will it be exclusively dual screen?
I would argue that another problem with the universal EXP Share mechanic is that there is now ZERO built in incentive to actually change your team around and just favor your starter. This means that the player is not getting real life experience in using their new Pokémon, so you never actually get a feel for your new Mon's overall profile. I see far too many people just keep using their current favorite up front and neglect the rest of their team on all trainer encounters unless their primary goes down due to overuse or a bad matchup. If the game is otherwise balanced enough, this problem is mitigated but a good Pokémon game should always incentivize you to actually try out your new catch.
… I guess now there’s only one question: How is this even GOING to work on emulators?
Please give the Elite Four actually full teams. I feel like they were a huge miss in my original playthrough, way too easy
Pokemon Black is the most modern pokemon game I've ever played, as my parents didn't get me a 3DS, so I missed out on everything afterwards. I know nothing about Mega evolutions, so this will be interesting!
I am SO excited for this project.
I ADORE X and Y in much the same way I love the Johto games. These games got me back into Pokemon for the first time since gen 2 not counting remakes, I only played gens 3-5 because of the excitement I had for these games coming out. I had wanted a 3D handheld Pokemon game since Pokemon stadium, and I would've been happy with n64 graphics, so I found these games absolutely gorgeous. They delivered for me everything I wanted. It's a very cozy Pokemon game for me. I love the berry farm, the battle chateau, it's the game I got into Pokemon Breeding in, the trainer customization was excellent and long awaited.
I'll be honest. While I understand the many criticisms, I still always find myself surprised to see how much people don't like these games.
I am very excited for your team to breathe new life into these games and maybe give people a chance to see the good in these games.
Why not have every pokemon available? How else would you sell pokemon bank?
My biggest frustration with XY was always the one you briefly touched on: for the first half of the journey, it feels like you're interrupted constantly from actually adventuring, and for every plot event, every character has to tell you their opinion of it no matter how inconsequential. On repeat playthroughs it turned into 'tapping B to get out of this conversation one day' so fast.
I genuinely thought he was done with the Legacy series 😮
Gotta rom hack em all!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
One more thing. Malva, the Fire type Elite Four Member, openly insults the player and announced that she was a member and supporter of Team Flare and states she will take revenge on the Player for Lysandre. What I don't understand is how she was allowed to keep her position in the Pokemon League while being an open supporter of Team Flare even when Lysandre tried to fire the ultimate weapon. The Pokemon League should have removed her immediately and put in someone else, then have that characters dialogue reflect how they are the replacement for Malva. Then in the post game, have a small event where Malva tries to rally Team Flare under her and take revenge on the player.
Titles like this are really annoying.
Well, either this will be the next definitive way to play Kalos until the next one comes out. Or I bring back the Zoomies "team" for Gen 6
I am incredibly excited to play this. Pokémon Y hit me at a pivotal time in my life, and i really enjoyed getting to experience it. That said, i can also appreciate how unbalanced and lopsided it feels; there's a reason i've never felt like replaying it! 😅 So i'm looking forward to what you and your team have come up with.
On a different note: these design problems that you mention about balance seem TOO malicious to be accidental. I can only conclude that they actively wanted to steer you AWAY from the Kalos Pokémon.
WOOOOOHOOOO NEW LEGACY DRIOPPL
5:36 I think I am an outlier, I love so many Kalos designs, Inkay, Espurr, Pancham, Goomie, Skrelp, Noibat, Helioptile, Clauncher, they are all hits for me in addition to the ones already listed.
Also I LIKE when I have to go out of my way for new Pokemon, I don't like when they are late, but I like when they are harder to get than the earlier gen pokemon. I like building Region focused Pokemon teams so I enjoy the experience working for them. But again yes, I don't like when they are only obtainable late.
The next Legacy project is almost here!!!
i swear this guy is just a really ineffective ragebaiter. pokemon xy are my favourite games. and this guy cant stop hating on them, for what? being easy?
The single-route spawns are SUCH a pain in Nuzlocke runs! ESPECIALLY in the early game. It's SOUL-CRUSHING to encounter Weedle or Scatterbug, or Combee or Skitty. And you have to dodge REALLY bad Pokémon until after you get the Kanto Starters.
It would be cool to give enemy trainer pokemon extra hidden abilities to allow them to be more balanced and closer in strength to the show, also tying it to the trainer id variable could allow the player to name themselves after the in game NPC to make it so they can catch versions with said hidden ability
I've always thought up to three Pokémon per Gym Leaders was weird in this game in particular. It's like GF thought high levels are enough to counterbalance the player having a Mega Lucario.
If Cynthia was the conclusion to a speech it would be kind of poetic to encounter all the aces of the gym story but it’s a game so it’s not good. Thank you
It's only 72 new Pokemon when you don't count the Mega Evolutions. This is what a large number of fans always do(including myself at first because I was so Pokedex focused). Same with Regional Variants. Regional Variants are also new Pokemon, not just forms. They have completely different move pools and typings and they can't become the other version on the fly. Calling a regional variant the same Pokemon is like saying all of Eevees evolutions are just one Pokemon with different forms.
As much as I absolutely adore pokemon Platinum given it's my favorite pokemon game alongside Crystal and Emerald, I have the opinion that Vanilla Platinum holds up very well today and still play it constantly and love it. X/Y definitely felt like perfect candidates for this Legacy facelift. Also, I absolutely loved all of your Legacy hacks. They're so much fun and breathe new life into these already great titles, but don't completely overhaul those games. Very faithful to those releases.
