Yes The Switch 2 Has Been Hacked – Let’s Talk About It

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been hacked with a Userland exploit that requires SmileBASIC to run.

Following recent reports of character injection in Mario Kart World running on retail hardware, the security landscape is shifting rapidly. Commercial games are being dumped and datamined and of course some early homebrew is starting to appear, but what does this mean for the end-user and will we start to see emulators, decomps and recomps appearing anytime soon?

Lets talk about the Switch 2 Jailbreak, how we got here and what the future holds in todays episode!

  1. I'm hoping that I can keep my Switch 2 offline for long enough for another method to come around, because I was only about 30 minutes late to getting Smile BASIC and then another 30 minutes late to getting it the alternate way. I'm half tempted to just buy another Switch 2, but that'll have to be a bit farther down the line since I am a broke man right now lol.
Also, I heard that this exploit has been known about for a while, but it was being kept under wraps for as long as possible so Nintendo wouldn't patch it out and we could get more games available with a higher firmware. This Pepsi guy though found out about it independently and decided to just shoot it out there, much to some people's chagrin. Doors are wide open now, though, and I'm glad that this was at least done on a firmware that I had access to already.

  2. Thanks for an actual, rational explanation. Frustrating how any discussion about this is full of people who are only interested in emulators and piracy and think we'll have them tomorrow.

  3. It is a great news. I am not a fan of Switch 2, but I hope that it will speed up making a Switch 2 emulator (which maybe I will test someday).

  4. Great… now the fair players (those who don't want to hack their systems) have to worry about:
    1. NS2 Game Cards that have their contents dumped, because NS Game Cards that were dumped by prior owners or were subjected to the MiG Switch would be flagged as pirated software, which will trigger a permanent system ban once it is inserted into a Nintendo Switch 2 System regardless of player activity.
    2. Cheaters in online play
    3. Hack attacks on other players online, especially in Call of Duty.

  5. I assume you meant Nintendo patched the exploit on everything after the original v1 Switches? They didn't patch v1 Switches because the bug exists in hardware so they had to do a hardware revision.

  6. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo (maybe Sony…) basically just go "if we were hacked by someone asking AI to do this, why not do it ourselves" and this really becomes "100 people with Pro OpenAI/Claude accounts vs. Nintendo/Sony with 10s to 100s of people on Enterprise OpenAI/Claude/Gemini accounts saying money is no objective"

  7. Switch 2 didn't got jailbroken so no homebrew software. The current memory exploit is extremely dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. It can damage your memory and make it unwritable. Meaning It can't load games or system can't boot at all. It's a step to a full jailbroken but many step is still needed.

  8. I support homebrew, but, I also prefer games not being datamined right after or even before launch. It was kinda nice not to worry about spoilers for a bit, but this was inevitable.

  9. This is what happen when a coding employee at nintendo or Sony breaks and post on the internet how to hack the hardware data, Dumping the switch data onto an A.I system and reprogramming the firmware and DRM, Finally A.I. is doing something that isn't Slop.

  10. The fact they're now poking at firmware etc means we're going to find some exploits before they can patch everything… no matter how much they try to bulletproof their hardware, there's always a way in. We've seen it so far.
Might not come any time soon, but it's going to come. And once we're there, suddenly the switch2 will explode for usability. Piracy sure, but full-blown homebrew and ports running native, making it another of Nintendo's systems popped wide open.

  11. I just responded to a video about the ps5 breaks with this: We are seeing the beginnings of a much larger world wide movement that will encompass almost every part of society. It's not just console or videogame makers that people are upset with, it's just the part of society that already had an active scene that have been working on such things for decades. People are also fed up with gov, home appliances, automobiles, cameras, farming equipment, laptops and PCs, phones, tablets, TELEVISIONS, retail stores, and anything and everything beyond or in between. If it requires a subscription, if updates make products worse for profit, if things we buy and/or own enshitify and eula's lead to forced arbitration, it's in the crosshairs. These things are in almost every part of our lives. We are seeing the beginning of a movement that's about to burn capitalism to the ground and I'm so happy that I'm here to witness the match being lit.

  12. I really wish they had kept the exploit itself from the general public a lot longer. the ninjas will definitely fix this very quickly. I wonder if fuze has any issues like this. it's the better basic anyways lmao.

  13. People always scream piracy with console modding but it's really just enabling the system to do things it should've been able to do in the first place. Consoles are such restrictive pieces of shit; modding just enables them to do some things that a PC can normally do.

  14. I hate modern AI, but it's good for two and only two things: language translation and brute forcing semi-complex things. I accept its use for finding exploits like this but I'm NOT looking forward to deluge of vibe-coded slop that's going to take over and push aside human created mods once the Switch 2 is fully jailbroken.

  15. Seems like the only reason they created the switch 2 was to improve it's security. Once these games get dumped, I can't wait to see if they work on the original switch lol.
