Valve is handing Steam’s featured deals to the algorithm, with personalised sales arriving in early 2027. That could give overlooked games another chance long after launch. But more visits and wishlists don’t necessarily mean more sales, and there’s one kind of personalisation players are unlikely to welcome.

  1. Can we just get a seperate store for all of the EA games? i'm so tired of seeing something so promising and it's "Releasing in Q4 2027" Like bruh. We gon be nuked by then

  2. But isn't the Data a bit flawed? I mean that most of the games on the bottom are just pure Trash as in just cheap Copies of other games, with cheap Asset Flips and now AI Slop Games. Why should I want so see or even buy one these games? There could be one good game in the pile of junk, but I don't want to dig through all the junk to find it.

  3. What does the sales data look like when you discount the low effort shitter games that flood the platform? Is it still 85% sales go to 1% of games then?

  4. Oh steam notices that it has issues with supporting smaller creators.. steam actually solves that and tries to give smaller creators a chance
    give gabe newell another yacht.

  5. Nextfest is great, i would have had to spend money on games that looks ok on the store page, only to be disappointed and put in a refund. Every game should have a demo!

  6. I rely on youtubers to find out about games that fall between the cracks. Gameranx is probably my favorite for those. Also, my 15 year old keeps finding good indie games I end up enjoying.

  7. 15% charge on sub-1M sales would only work if it were a scale rather than a cutoff, as otherwise you're paying around $150k if you sell $999,999 of product and $300k if you sell $1M. Perhaps 15% on the first million, 35% on the next $3M, then 30% thereafter, or some similar setup.

  8. What's unfortunate here is that steam's algorithm, while considerably better than before, is still very very imperfect. For instance, I'm interested in visual novels. That interest is limited to Japanese titles and a small handful of Western offerings that have actual artistic integrity. Steam, however, sees my interest, and brings me Western slop vns made with AI generated visuals in an attempt to make a quick buck. Needless to say, if the algorithm decides to put said slop on sale for me, I could miss out on a vn actually worth buying in that slot.
So while yes, the system does seem promising, I do think it will need more fine-tuning if they're gonna tie sales to it

  9. Could they also stop showing the same 10 games in my face all the time? I dont care for tarkov, how many times do i have to not click it to stop seeing it? Also, you have my cpu gpu and ram in front of you, i cant even run that game, stop showing me it))

  10. give me a break this isn't about helping indie devs this is about extreme greed. their 30% charge is vampirizing the entire community and hurting everyone to fund gabe newell's obsession with 500 million dollar megayachts. wake tf up.

  11. A good visibility hack would be to offer people personalized free weekends on games. This would mean that more games would be played. and more visibility to games.
preferably this would primarily be done with games that are sort of interesting to you, and games that have been out there for a while.

  12. To be honest, I've never had an issue with what steam recommends me right now. Plenty of indie games, plenty of AAA, and plenty of recommendations in the genres I'm interested in, with a few popular ones from outside of those. I'm quite skeptical on the benefit of this new algorithm. I suspect I'll hate it just like every other specialized algorithm that companies invest in.
