Let's say console market crashes. Both Microsoft and Sony have a lot of other businesses that make them a lot more money. So, it makes sense why people at the top of those companies aren't really concerned when they don't care about gaming personally. Nintendo is different, its leadership actually has some passion beyond games being just a way to make money. They like to game and games they produce show it. It's kind of like how they don't even compete to have prettiest games in the industry because for them gameplay is a much bigger deal than having most polygons rendered per character with highest resolution textures and the most demanding real time post-processing that can still run games at whooping 30 fps.

This really rings hollow when you continuously hype up vibe coded mods like the Bloodborne port or the SF4 rollback mod.
If you told me when I was a kid that one day the new PlayStation would cost 1000euros, I would probably never be into video games. Even the ps3 launch price made me stop caring about new games
hopefully the industry weeds out the FIFA casuals that are responsible of EA's huge profit and we only keep the people who really love videogames and can make sane decisions of who to support in the industry. Sony keeps earning because of the fuckin casuals, that's one reason they're moving to full digital, because fuckin casuals don't care about videogame preservation, they only care about buying the next FIFA and COD
It's not going to last forever. When the AI bubble bursts, we will see companies enact price cuts consistently until we get back to that $500 range for a console.
Only brain dead idiots will buy a PS6 and the next Xbox if these are the prices.

Thank God for Steam and GoG, seriously. If it weren't for these PC platforms and the types of little games that can run basically on potatoes more often than not. Don't think I'd be gaming ever at this point lol

Thanks to ambitious people and help from AI. People are jailbreaking their PS5s and still running all their games. They are even running older games using the disc drive. People are running ps2 game discs on the PS5.
So sony lied or lazy when it came to backwards compatibility all this time. I hope people continue to crack and pirate all their stuff. Sony has earned it

Game development should just regress back to pixel art and low poly graphics. If we can't afford consoles to run high-end games, then game developers shouldn't even make high-end games anymore.
