BioWare has officially been shut down after 30 years in business. It’s a melancholy ending to an otherwise legendary studio, one who had a hard fall from grace in recent years. Still, I will remember them and their games fondly. Today we’re diving into the BioWare shutdown!

  1. Bioware was dying when EA bought them. EA saved Bioware several times due to their inability to manage their finances. EA is an awful company and I hate having to defend them, but Bioware killed Bioware. The last big hit they had was Inquisition, and I personally found it to be mid at best. The next Mass Effect was in pre production for 7 years. You can't fail this badly and expect to keep your job. I love old school Bioware. Mass Effect 2 is my favorite game of all time and I'm old A F so that's a lot of games. But apathy has set in and I accepted that the Bioware I loved so long ago is and has been dead for 15 years.

  2. It was not EA who killed bioware. It was the goal to please the modern audience – all 60 of them. Turned out the modern audience loves to complain about games but they won't play them.

  3. It's disappointing we'll never get another Mass Effect, Dragon Age or even a KotOR remake from the studio… but given the quality of what they've put out over the last decade, this is probably a blessing.
The sad truth is Bioware 'died' a long time ago. The people who made the studio what it was had long since left and EA had already stripped the studio back to a skeleton crew a fraction of the size it was at its peak around two decades ago.
EA didn't 'kill' Bioware here, they finally accepted that the brain dead husk the studio had become wasn't going to get better and shut off the life support.

  4. How much of the failiures of Bioware trough the years was directetly linked to fucking EA big wigs using their greasy hands to control the ips and undermine the games using cluless market research and trends…

  5. I'm relieved to see this husk has been put to rest, and I honestly think the legacy of bioware will be failguard first, and old bioware second.

  6. A few thoughts

    1) Mass Effect 4 or 5 (w/e) waa announced 6 or 7 years ago, and it was still in pre development. The earliest was 2032 for a release, if not 2035. There was no game

    2) why are people crying for them? Because of what they did 20 years ago? Remember, these people hate your very existence. If you died, they would celebrate.

They got what they deserved. For the industry to heal, you cannot save these companies. You have to shut them down and start anew

  7. Some gamers say we didn't realize how good we had it back in the day, Truth is some of us old timers do realize how good we had it, and have been trying and trying and trying to get those good old days of gaming back, Bioware died over 15 years ago and now we can finally see its resting place

  8. Way I see it, it's felt like having an elderly relative that's accomplished amazing things in their prime now be bedridden in a hospital, plugged to a wall and they keep forgetting what they've done and who their family is, but they keep clinging to life somehow even though there's no signs that things will ever get any better. The legendary studio that was Bioware, the talent that made it such a great studio, that all faded years ago. It's bittersweet that the plug's finally been pulled. I'll always remember the games they made 2012 and earlier, but "Bioware" had become little more than a shell of a studio over the last decade, using the name like Ubisoft keeps using 'Tom Clancy', as a means to sell products rather than anything earned. I just feel like at least now, there's nothing that can ruin the legacy of the studio any further. Because with that fuckass Gamble at the helm of ME4, there was a solid 50/50 chance the game would either do very poorly, or do just good enough to keep the lights on a year or two longer. And from any logical business standpoint.. Those chances aren't worth it. If there's a 50% chance you're already deteriorated, meme'd up studio will just make an even bigger mockery of themselves? Pull that plug. Maybe EA will sell the IP to a studio that actually has passion and talent still. Because the people that were left at Bioware sure didn't have much of either.
