The only narrative that has been shattered is the one being pushed by channels like this.
Are a lot of publishers money grubbing scumbags? sure, but this sensationalist crap every time a good (or bad) game comes out is wearing.
The only reason I post rather than just hitting 'do not recommend channel' is that a couple of creators that had I thought to be grown up analytical channels seem to be increasingly going for the low hanging schlock content. May as well watch just watch AI. I'm sad cause I thought this channel had something interesting to say.

Your praise of gameplay doesn't matter. An ordinary player cannot even run the game on it's mid-range PC, and you are talking about enjoyable gameplay.
You cannot enjoy something that runs like poop.
Mid-range PCs barely give 30 FPS at native 4K, and even 5090 cannot go above 60 FPS… (facepalm)
I had high hopes for Chinese devs, maybe they will do justice and optimize their phenomenal-looking games, but no.
Not only they did nothing to optimize it, they even invented a new option that lowers the output resolution, basically upscaling upscaled game.

No, it isn't even REMOTELY hard to follow. In what way is it "hard to follow" ???? I went into the game expecting there to be some confusing, massive exposition dump, and too many characters… NOPE, it's EXCEEDINGLY CLEAR and tells you everything.

A tip for new players:
A lot of the bosses are actually training mechanics. Some bosses can Only be approached After you break their shield. So try out Dodging, Deflection / Parry and your phantom edges. Weapon switching mid-combo is also FAR more useful then you would think. (Hint: Infinite Combo)
For instance,
one boss can ONLY be damaged after your break enough shield to stop his invincibility buff.
Another Flurries you with attack, you can only deflect and dodge until the counter happens.
Another will kill you in two strikes once you get far away from them, you Have to stay close.
If your still reading this, here's a gift
Collect the Wraithblade and the Jagged Steel.
Use the heavy combo with Wraith as an opener, then once the lilies are placed and the combo is over Weapon Switch to Jagged Steel and follow-up with it's heavy attack(You unlock it later). Keep the combo up and throw in a Weapon Skill. When you finish the Weapon Skill Combo, Weapon Switch back to Wraitblade for new lilies.
Just rinse and repeat and throw in some Phantom Blades of your choice.
A strong combo with heavy blows will interrupt the boss EVEN AFTER he regains his shield.
The lilies will quickly drain them back to defenceless x)…

In Chinese, we have a saying: if you don't want to do it, there are loads of people willing to do it. If Western devs don't wanna please the gamers, then Eastern devs can have the job.

There's a reason these western studios are crumbling so dramatically, like we saw the new God of War, they used mocap just for some fun.
This eastern studio gets a huge named martial artist, to do mocap, so they can map out highly technical choreography of combat.
They don't even use the same thing the same way, they're both using mocap but one squanders money and the other one spends it to improve the quality of the game.
I'm from Scotland UK and pearl abyss a south Korean studio made crimson desert a game that feels like it was actually made for me. I feel like the target audience and it's my goty! If crimson desert was made in the west I know it would be a disaster! The east nailed it with that game and continues to do so with many other games. The gamers didn't change, the studios changed 💯

At this point I think most of us are done playing western games. Gta 6 is going to be woke trash. All they serve lately is slop with a 60-70$ label. I stopped playing cod after block ops 2. The new Gears of War was retarded like Wolverine. I love souls games and souls-like games like Black Myth Wukong. I am HIGHLY looking forward to more eastern games like Black Myth: Zhong Kui, Blood Message, and Project Windless! Huge thank you to the east! Man PBZ need a bit more context in their lore for global audience. The whole wulin and wuxia base background lore in some form or the other. The translation of words to heroes is kinda awkward lol.. warriors would be more concise and fit more but then it will make things feel less heavy. lol chinese words and english words do not really fit in that much to translate tbh.
Yea things will be hard to follow without basic premises of how wulin and wuxia world work. The difficulty of translation to general english from chinese also for this type of game is really difficult to pull it off also. So most people will be a bit off by story and seem convoluted.
So let me just put some context in … wulin is like martial artist world as a whole… wuxia is like repectable martial artist practitioner who follow each own code of kinda like bushido ( just giving out e.g. to kinda get the point). But it depends on how you use it in the sentence so its kinda hard to pinpoint the definite meaning.
Mandate in wulin world = Clan or clans who follow certain strict rules for their vision kinda. Its actually more involve than that with code of honor, brotherly, sisterly bond , etc. Most similar essence would be like the clan in sengoku era like oda clan. But the thing is in each mandate there is different clans or sects who follow their own strict martial art form. E.g. lets say shaolin since many people can relate to that , there is iron head sects, there is iron leg sect, bronze body sect, just giving out example not exact. But yea thats the premises of mandate in chinese wulin world. Not really a simple translation.
Sha-chi —— its kinda main point , since the game really didn't put in any context regarding this. That fact alone kinda made global audience lose the track of what they are saying.
There are different types of Chi in wulin premise— lets think it as chakra in naruto. Similar principle. The main base principle for martial artists in wulin is about cultivating chi like growing up more chakra you can hold right. But there are different ways to do so. There is balanced chi, sha chi, and some others that I won't go into deets that all depends on how you cultivate it. Base principle — people who cultivate sha chi ( malice chi or sage chakra or i dunno man running out of words., if you played WOW back in MOP you might be kinda familiar with the Sha energy which actually mean sha-chi in similar essence there too) , are tabooed and shammed by the right hand side of the mandates and people who practices balanced chi or path of true wuxia.
TL:DR people who practice sha-chi cannot cultivate sha-chi without sacrificing their morality or something of those nature. people without malices cannot cultivate sha-chi. So we, mc as a whole mandate disciple are not good guys at all.
May be more like vigilantes. Without understanding that general premise and hidden lores about wulin you won't get attach to story as much as we do. But still nevertheless story is still not that convoluted yet still heavier than you think it is. It is also not helping when the game keep using different word to same premise of chinese words you get lost.
Not all practitioners who practice sha-chi are considered bad guys either there are also some individuals who is considered a true wuxia despite practicing sha-chi like IP man in the game. So it is kinda convoluted. Also the Loong people lets just called them dragon clan because thats the translated name. The long people cultivate sha chi also but they are considered right hand mandate or clan since their sha chi is total polar opposite of Mo clan. So Sha-chi is more of extreme chi on either side rather than only dark side. Its mostly base upon the daoism or yin/yang nature of the chi cultivation.
Also you will see a lot of mandate stick together to fight the veil or maskwalker and such right. Let me tell you something. without sha the veil cannot corrupt people mind. without chi you cannot protect yourself from preventing the corruption of the veil either. I hope this give you somewhat clarity on the premises of the whole wulin narrative lore in general.
Generally, shaolin, wutang or pre wutang mandate practitioners like seven star sword tech, are kinda considered light mandate, kun lun , and one other mandate i forgot that got mentioned in the game are kinda in middle path mandate,
The rest including mc own mandate is considered dark mandate.
The chi depends on its own practitioner cultivation. Like sage chakra, you need to balance it or you will end up demon kinda thing.
P.s., that wutang or pre wutang mandate is the mandate or clan is the one who supposedly created tai chi we are practicing today.

It's normal -the west got hijacked by ideologues. It will eventually happen to the others too once successful. The key is to have new devs build by talented angry people not organisations.
For us this game is GOTY, but I doubt The Game Awards would ever let a chinese game take home the GOTY title. Just look at what happened in 2024.
I personally won't touch anything made by chinese developers because off things like Tencent and connections to the CCP. But I will not deny that they have homed in on the things that western game devs have long since lost.
