  1. This game feels like a “Remake” in the same sense as Final Fantasy 7 or Resident Evil 2, where they took the original and brought it up to modern standards, which meant basically making an entirely new game, except, it feels like the team for OOT looked at the the original, prepared to make all those dramatic changes much like those other two, and then realized “Hey wait a minute…it’s Ocarina of Time. It’s already basically perfect”

Like, they set out to make a reimagining, and ended up with a loving recreation of the original almost by accident, because that’s just how well designed the original game is. I dunno, does that make sense?

All I know is, I’ve played the original more times than I can count, I was not super hip on the idea of the remake at first, but sitting here playing it, I cannot stop. It’s basically perfect. Every wrinkle from the original is smooth, every point of friction sanded away, and what’s left is everything I loved about the original game. It’s kind of miraculous

  2. When I first played the Sun Song and only ONE GIBDO froze, I was upset. So when I went to Hyrule Field and played the Sun Song again, and that wispy sunlight only drifted a few meters ahead of me, I felt disbelief for the seconds it took me to realize that the Sun Song was going to effect the entire world, not just light up a small portion of the land. But I was still surprised by the gibdo freezing zone.

  3. I love how watching this video on the same tv that I’ve just played this game on, the quality difference that people talk about with YouTube compression is real. This game looks so much better on Switch 2 hardware than what YouTube can show, it’s staggering. This video is a pale, washed out mess compared to what you see in the actual game.

I am absolutely floored by the look of this game. It is almost impossible to describe the level of success that Nintendo has achieved by attempting this remake.

  4. I’m loving the game! I’m taking it slow and only a few hours in and haven’t done dodongos cavern yet.

I thought the voice acting would bother me as this is my first game EVER with voice acting but I like it. I’m a millennial and have been gaming since I was age 3, I’ve just always tried to avoid it. I’ve played a few demos with like storybook narration that I hated but this is different. I can’t say I will seek it out in other games yet and I hope I continue to like it as I keep playing.

The great deku tree scene made me genuinely cry haha. I played the N64 version originally, but the orchestra and voice acting is hitting even harder. I like that it’s not every line too.

  5. Out of every remake ever made this one is by far the best. So glad they kept it 1:1 it didn’t need to be massively overhauled and anyone who wanted that is crazy for thinking that because then they wouldn’t get to experience the masterpiece that is OoT in its purest form. 10/10 goated video game.

  6. This was the game that made me love games when I was 12. So to see it come to life again this way is awesome. I’m not sure if kids today will appreciate it like that, which is fine. But for me, this is very special.

  7. My one small complaint is the Breath of the Wild styled voice acting. The cutscenes don’t feel that far off from the in game graphics so it’s extra jarring when the voice acting goes on and off. Also the NPCs sounds exactly the same as in Breath of the Wild.

  8. After playing this I realized I don’t think we need remakes. I’m enjoying my time with this game a lot but I just keep thinking that this energy could have gone to the next original game in the series

  9. Honestly, I hope Nintendo prototypes future Zelda games in the 64 engine with its limitations to help inspire creativity. Games these days are way too bloated and OOT is just perfect.

  10. On a side note about voice acting: I'm so happy that Nintendo is finally doing localization to brazilian portuguese, I speak fluent english so it didn't bother me before but my wife doesn't and she can finally play the games I love and properly understand them, the brazilian voice acting is also AMAZING for what I've seen so far, at most some pronunciation is weird for me who is used to the english version but that's just localization of fonetics, it makes sense.

The lip sync is actually kinda good in portuguese, the brazilian dub industry has a lot of experience in localizing stuff without changing mouth movement and still making it somewhat match.

  11. Also the biggest visual indicator about its its puppet marionette type style is when you finally go to the skulluita House and not only are the faces in the abdomen like obviously porcelain faces with cracks in it, but one of the arms on the enemy is fitted into a human arm. As such as if it was a hollow porcelain arm of a doll. That's such a exquisite piece of detail.

  12. The Jump button is more underrated than some people think. When defeating monsters sometimes, loot drops would end up stuck on a ridge or elevated corner of the scenery. You just had to stand there as it lay embarrassingly just out of reach and flickered away

  13. its'great. having lots of fun and i think thats the only thing that matters. if i had to nitpick i think hyrule field looks incredible ugly. running could have been faster too. still not a fan of scrolling trough items to get to the item you want while holding the button but eh….its fine. would have loved an option to make gyro faster and bit more responsive as well. otherwise, its just a blast to play, tho im realizing now as an adult AND the quality of life updates that you get trough everything really fast, and that the game is a lot shorter then i thought it was in my head 😆 Also if you sit close to a big 4k tv you see the fsr lines the whole time, and that's really ugly 😆but eh i know people use the excuse "but its running on a tablet" lol

  14. I really think the fact that for most children today this is the first and only version of OoT they have ever played has to be considered. When they play this and compare it to other modern games it has to be a life changing experience.

  15. I think it's perfect but I'm listening to the Japanese voice acting which is great quality. I know a significant amount of Japanese vocabulary but it feels less unnatural when fantasy worlds speak any language besides English which is my native language.

  16. I don't have a switch too, but I've been playing the 3DS version of ocarina of Time in anticipation for the release. I'm at the Shadow Temple and I've never ridden Epona.

  17. As someone with zero nostalgia for OoT, I’m completely enamored with this remake. I did play the 3Ds port last year or so but honestly had a hard time getting into it. All of the modern updates have made it exponentially more enjoyable for me, and I can’t stop smiling while I play

  18. My biggest issue with the Graphics so far is the Kokiri’s leaf clothes.

I mean practically speaking they cant last very ling before needing to be replaced right?
    🤣

  19. This is the first time ive played OOT in about 15 years. Im having a blast with it. Couldn't put it down. I think I played about 13 hours yesterday alone. Just truly a masterpiece once again.

  20. Its ok. Slightly disappointed tbh. I think running is too slow traversal is alittle more tedious than it should. Games like hollow knight make traversal fun…this is not. Also ABIT obtuse I'm on the belly dungeon and it's annoying not fun. Hoping adult Link is better.

  21. 10/10 game for me but I have a theory that this was more of a test from Nintendo to try out a bunch of different things and see how audiences would like them so they just decided to package it into Ocarina of Time so it would definitely sell. Kinda like the 3DS version seemed to be a test of the 3D slider and the gyro aiming. It feels like the fact that it's Ocarina of Time is secondary to something else rather than the fact that they just really wanted to remake OOT. I just can't put my finger on it though.
