Phantom Blade Zero centers expression and spectacle over progression-halting difficulty checks. At 40-ish hours and with over 50 bosses to fight and 30 unique weapons to collect, there’s a stunning amount of videogame here, and almost all of it is truly excellent.

For anyone wondering, New Game Plus is available on launch as confirmed at 22:50
More souls like parry slop on the way. Truly a sad sight
FINALLY an action game is not a souls-like!
So, review starts off with 'if you're poor and don't have the highest end GPU … F it'
Finally something that's not trying too hard to be soulslike and be difficult af for no reason, i might just actually want to play this game, the try hards can look elsewhere lol
Why did Nvidia sponsor this when they have basically stopped selling GPUs to consumers…
It feels a bit of a miss that you keep mentioning it's not difficult, without mentioning it has difficulty levels bar once early on.. People will forget that anyone who finds it TOO easy can just make it harder, when you say like 10 times its quite easy..
I never gave this game a second thought. I always thought it was just an over the top souls-like, which is a genre I'm so incredibly burnt out from; but this review changed my perspective on it so I might check it out.
FF16 didn't lean into being a hard game, but I absolutely loved it, story and all. Ninja Gaiden is my favorite action game. Challenge is core to many of these games, but it's not everything.
Gameranx: exploration is meaningless
Skillup: exploration is rewarding
You can't believe anyone
It's on the list but there have been so many good games/dlcs/1.0s the last few months, I ain't got da time.
So….summons with meaning? Side quest buddies helping out. Ha! Thats gonna give dark souls players such dilema.
glad to hear about the sincerity amid the ironic eye-rolling Western AAA. Nature abhors a vacuum.
can't wait
And I STRONGLY RECOMMEND soaking your balls in ice water before spending $70 or more and a game.
I'm so glad to hear this isn't a souls like! Is the fog finally lifting!?
I'm excited to play this game, but I'll probably wait for a sale. I've already bought MW4 & FF Resonance 🫡
…I always like game ala god of war 2018…going to my list…
I wish Fromsoft would match the technical art chops of some of these Eastern dev teams. They have great art direction and game design, but From's engine seems like a creaky, broken down old wagon.
