I know you want ranked and all but you're likely going to be upset when you're in brick, and cant get out of brick. You can only queue ranked with a duo, not a full team in ranked. And you don't know movement tech or economy…. nobody else is real enough to inform you that you're a brick level player
Charlie I promise you ranked isn't going to be this revolutionary thing for you so I would really recommend just playing for fun. The only real difference in ranked imo is that you can swap your character, I really don't think there's a huge difference in the matchmaking, maybe you get less feeders and dcers but i don't think there's that big of a difference with standard. I started playing again a month ago or so when they released ranked (though I had some games from 2 years ago, i still had to grind to unlocked ranked) and like you, I thought unlocking ranked was what I wanted to do. But by the time I had three characters at 15 wins, I realized I really liked the game and didn't want to limit myself to just 3 characters in ranked when there are so many fun heroes in this game. Now I've unlocked like 10 characters and still don't really want to go into ranked, we'll see when that changes but I still feel like I still have so much to improve on with the core fundamentals of the game and I have more than enough fun playing standard.
Either on or off stream you should checkout: Eido Deadlock. He is a youtuber and arguably the best overall Deadlock player in the world. I feel like simply watching him play a game or 2 could be massive for you understanding movement and the game in general.
