on the development side, remakes/remasters are also good for onboarding new devs to a project with a reference, or to refresh devs on what the original did to make it what it was (sometimes, usually, before making a sequel of a game that hasn't had one in a long time)
I’m 13… I don’t really have the luxury of nostalgia yet.
I love games
TBH, I think I'm leaving console gaming.
Remakes are a slippery slope, we let it happen with movies and now we can't get a good movie to save our lives because it's either a soulless remake or an unnecessary and unwanted sequel/prequel, they're gonna do this with video games too if we let them
The charisma and appeal of Tiny Tony is so undeniable that I just watched an entire Rocket Money ad. I hate Rocket Money ads! He’s a fan favorite for a reason!

Hello burback boys ive watched a while and never blessed you with my username. Today that changes. Keep it up guys ❤ wishing the best
Enjoy everything you upload public on YouTube (if its not on YouTube no one sees it)Final fantasy 7 is not the last one made for ps2 Final fantasy x and x-2 were made before ps2 stopped making ps2 games.
As someone who's first zelda game was breath of the wild I've been wanting to play more zelda games for so long but going from breath of the wild to the older games wasn't really interesting to me because of the muddy graphics fixed cameras and controls that were very different from what I'm used to. Seeing the ocarina of Time remake made me so excited because it looks like a game I could actually have alot of fun playing. Older games are just hard for my eyes to understand sometimes. I understand the value of nostalgia it's why I still have a 3ds but I do think it blinds people sometimes. Mario 64 remake when?
Not super related but a couple of years ago I watched a friend play some of kingdom hearts (I never played it as a kid) and the scene in hercules coliseum where hercules carries cloud strife over his shoulder caused me to fall into a fugue state and I arrived on the other side of it having written the only hercules x cloud strife fanfic on ao3
Grat video, thank you!!
Im quite sad Sony hates consumers. I would very much like to play Shadow of the Colossus.. but like, i guess no more PC releases 😢
what wooden doll show was pictured there? it looks sick
Really caught me off guard when you said an older kid named Ryan introduced you to Kingdom Hearts… The same shit happened to me. xD
12:36 NVIDIA DLSS would like to argue.
I still hate the water segment of majora mask on the 3ds. Instead of making the controller easier like they should’ve done, they kinda damaged both my 3ds and right hand
Uploaded 20 hours ago and I just sat down on the toilet. You guys really upload based around my schedule. Thank you! You’re the best!
38:00 it sounds like this is where the Evangelion Rebuild series lives.
i know the free inkarnate assets when i see them
This is pretty much the single best video I've seen that covers the topic of all kinds of reworks of old video games 💯
19:23 You didn't just spend the entire last section picking apart differences between 2 art styles and then try to gaslight us into thinking that the current child link is 'straight from the art style'.
Sorry, but no. The remake child link is a literall "putti" art style cherub. The 3DS remake made the models as accurate to the arty style as possible because that was the intended art direction. That is 'not' the art style direction this remake is taking.
Also, "might" by influenced by puppets? They literally worked on the game?
Just get an analogue pocket.
It's weird to me that you guys are younger than me and look like my uncle.
First off great video… But where is the De-make peninsula?
Which Burback brother is the remake?
I love making the categories into countries on a map. It's a great visual aid and an even better bit. Love what you guys do 👍
“Sueshoema”
41:12 Jenova Conventions was right there
this video should have been made 6 years ago holly fuck. putting a concise explanation and exploration on this topic out there for people to recognize a good remake from a bad one instead of not knowing why it's bad just it feels off is so important. great video mans.
This is a great video. I love a nuanced and sincere discussion about the artistic merits of temakes so much. Very refreshing!
In all the discourse about the OoT remake I feel weirdly out of the loop, because my version living in Nostolgia is the 3DS remake and not the original N64 version. I've hardly seen anyone bring up the fact this is OoT's second major remake which feels very strange to me. While I think art-style wise the 3DS version seems a bit more of a sendup of the original's graphics, it still had plenty of vhanges and had to go through the same decision process as the Switch 2 version.
Sony fumbled the bag a lot recently but shutting down bluepoint has to be the worst studio closure decision they’ve made
oh my god theres TWO OF THEM?????
I think a point that may have been misconstrued is the difference between a Remaster, a Remix, and a Remake. I felt they were interchanged in the video and may need to be broken down.
A remaster is adjusting the existing content to be visually more appealing or modernized without impacting the gameplay itself.
A remix is polishing up existing content, visually, but also adding a little extra without hurting the foundation. Like all is the same but there is a small, extra area to explore.
A remake is a complete teardown and rebuild from the ground up where only the foundation is untouched.
Let's use an old hospital for example:
To remaster the hospital would be to put a clean coat of paint on it and make it look nicer.
To remix the hospital, not only would you do the clean coat of paint, you may add on another wing or even a parking garage.
To remake the hospital, you would demo the entire building only to create a brand new hospital on the same site, keeping the foundation and location the same, but with an entirely new structure.
9:10 Thats why I bought one of those ‘Retro Gamboys’ you see those adds about w/15,000 Games. Just so I can Play all the Gameboy Games and Retro Games I Grew Up with again. Btw, they Lied about the PS2 Titles, there’s maybe 8 or 9 and I wanted to Try Crash Bandicoot (It’s the Thumbnail Art for the PS2 Gaming Section) annnd they didn’t Install it. Also, most of those 15,000 Titles Repeat Themselves through different Ports. Same Game on Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, Super Nintendo, N64, Atari, Sega, Etc. It’s more like 3 or 4 Thousand Titles.
YouTube hid this from me for 18 hrs. Unacceptable. I’m calling Jakey, Jakey & Jakey Attorneys at Law.
Wait there was an original oceans 11!?!?!
I don’t understand how anyone gets upset about a remaster….. don’t play it. Problem solved.
I know a few PS2 games that are AT THEIR LIMIT 11:01
I've seen a couple of videos like this and no one ever brings up nier replicant. I think it's one of the best and unique games in this kind of category.
They both took off their graphic tee's to make that joke.
Boys, for Pete’s sake, Go touch some grass. Sheesh!
22:21
hmm
Juding by the creepy, dishonest vibes, this guy is woke?
For the GBA example, I mean yes, but also flashcarts exist, reproductions exist. And it's not like the original developers are seeing a cent from these sales anyways. So why not just use a flashcart?
The new zelda looks like AI art tbh
Everything about the new ocarina remake looks amazing EXCEPT that Link model lmao.
this video rocks
The game that comes to my mind when thinking what refutes the title of this video would be the Yakuza Zero director's cut. It made changes to the story that are completely unhinged and make the game much stupider, and they delisted the original on all store fronts so there is now no legitimate way for a new player to experience the actually good version of the story. Yakuza Zero, as a work of art, has been made worse that it would be had they never made the director's cut remake 10 years later.
Edit: The boys do touch on this idea a bit at the end of the video.
