  1. they literally can't help undermining the entire point of character progression to artificially time-out peoples subs. here i am wondering for a couple of week if we might finally get crafting to be relevant, if old raid tiers could be used as crafting mats, if blizzard could fathom a boss with a small drop table of crafting materials to add minor buffs and utility to your existing gear, progress quests and attunments, or improve your skills and guild.

  2. I’m enjoying the beta but think I’ll go back to retail where they have all that cushy stuff like not having to travel for 10 min to a major city to use the AH or train my class. Also, some of the classes, at least in the beta feel a little too “vanilla” (I’m looking at you Druid) and make me concerned that they are worth the time investment. I have vivid memories of being not quite a tank or not quite a rogue, or not quite a mage, etc. I’m not surprised at Blizzard’s decision though, if they never advanced anything what would keep players motivated and spending that $14.99/month? “Hey come back and try this new Raid…where you can get the same level gear you got in the last one…err..hey it’s a different color this time!”

  3. Appreciate the info. I think there's going to be a lot of knee jerk reactions, but I think cooler heads will prevail. Incremental increases and relentless farming for that phatt loot will still be necessary 🙂

  4. gear being replaced is inevitable that part of the "progression" part of horizontal progression. as long as it isnt a stark difference between ilvls between raids it seems fair.

  5. What about WoW Forever having some sort of upgrade system? Not replacing the entire item, but just upgrading the tier of the gear you already own. Or maybe they could handle it like GW2 does—their gear progression works great: you get new content, but the game doesn't force you onto a constant gear treadmill XD

  6. What I thought they meant was something more like TBC endgame, where people still ran Karazhan to gear up alts or newer players so they could form a group for Black Temple, and so on. Apparently this is closer to what they intended.

  7. I had an idea of something like seasons. The current main raid has the gear upgrades. But after a season ends the gear drops slightly. Can frame it as you expended its power and now it’s about equal to the rest of level 60 “end game gear.” Meanwhile the new raid has gear that will now be the best in the game. Rinse and repeat

  8. "Retailpilled" devs.
They just can't form an original thought to save their lives.
This honestly just tells me that the devs consider Retail to actually be good design – which is insane!

  9. I’m sick and tired of this. They can't bring themselves to drop the stat loop because they're terrified players won't raid and pay their subs without a direct power treadmill. Staying as far away from wow as possible, this is another ripoff guys don’t be fooled for the 20th time.

  10. Each to their own, but I played 3-4 years of GW2 exclusively and I learnt quite quickly that vertical progression in some capacity feels required. Once you hit the vertical cap (ascended gear in gw2) it felt like no reason to do anything. Dont like the transmog (wardrobe) of the new raid? do it once but why ever farm it again the gear looks bad and I already have BIS. Again there are so many different types of players I get it but yea. A pure horizontal character progression feels not great.

  11. no man, what i think is also new content to explore the world will get bigger and bigger! and to keep relevant profesion and material need same chages in gear ! no necessary raid! we may craft raid gear no do raids ! thnink about it ! craft raid gear! then you know profesion is important.

  12. The folks saying "but GW2 is truly horizontal!" are missing the point, in GW2 you run new content because the true endgame is fashion dressup transmog simulator + mount traversal simulator. The Classic Andies clearly don't want either of those things, they don't want any kind of vertical items either, and even the Retail Andies who don't mind xmog and try out Forever won't want to collect mogs either because the "HD" models in Forever have absolutely nothing on Retail ones. So what kind of carrot is Blizzard supposed to put in the new raids for folks to bother learning new mechanics and strats then, just a sign on them saying pretty please? If you can get BiS just from the existing Classic stuff like MC, then every new raid they put out will be dead on release. Or worse, people will run it and it won't be remotely challenging because again, they're already decked out in BiS. So again, what are they supposed to do?
