A phone is not a console – and certainly not the quality of console they are charging for and want to be seen as. A phone is an essential device for modern life, a game console is not.

I’m completely locked out of console. I can’t afford it, I already have a decent PC and need a computer for essential services, I don’t believe in the walled garden model as being conducive to producing quality releases (very likely to produce trash).
The material barriers took years to accumulate, the attitudes came after anti-consumer moves, locking in my disdain.

Hence why the industry is attempting to remove private consumer access to compute hardware. Can't decompile or emulate if that data center you're renting access to outright blocks you from doing so. This is the actual war, not KuSony being as anti-consumer as they have been for literal decades.

The issue that needs to be front and center is not ownership per se but the scrapping of licensing for digital media, its a distinction with a difference. Licensing needs to go bye bye with the times.
Xbox, your easy, easy lay up is in front of you with 2 seconds on the board. Do you want to be relevant? Then ingratiate yourself to the players, to be handcuffed to the player is much more preferable than to the shareholders.
Sony should get used to thinking NOT OWNING their console library is just a Mentality.
Sony we'll willingly go digital if you completely get rid of EULAs, and make every game release DRM free so we can install it across our PC and Playstation with a single purchase. Ya know, that thing that GoG does with every single title they sell on their site? Those aren't licenses, and they're all digital, or were you hoping to legally screw all consumers to remove any right of ownership with the weird legal hole that governs software which is what is commonly called licenses? Those things that can be revoked at any time for any reason?? Yeah, without the GUARANTEED RIGHTS that come with a physical disc the first company that takes the leap either way (the first to offer DRM free software or the first to cut any kind of ownership outright making your ecosystem entirely a license mine field) will crown both a winner and loser for years to come.
Playstation seems like it's gunning for that crown of thorns and to be nailed to some planks and we'll happily crucify ya.
