  1. 2:40 Except it doesn't. The Wither Storm NEVER breaks from it's original directive. The entire game, it tracks the amulet, because reaching it and probably killing the holder was its directive.

It was so focused on it's directive that it would not accept another comand until it completed. That might even be scarier, a manmade creation that once given a task would anhiliate the entire world to complete it. Like the maximized paperclips scenario.

  2. Okayyy so this comment will be REALLY long since I'm gonna drop my own interpretation of the Wither Storm but I just gotta say this, as someone who's been fascinated by the Wither Storm for years now ever since I played MCSM as a kid, Thank you for making this 🙏 Wither Storm essays are always appreciated<3

The Wither Storm is analogous to Cancer. The command block is a man-made object, even if its unobtainable in survival, it still is a man-made object. Ellegaard actually almost created one before the wither storm appeared (I honestly hate this part since it implies that the command block, literally one of the most powerful items in the game and can alter reality itself, can by easily created with a contraption. Goshhh i hate that!!! my head cannon will still be that creative mode steve just spawned it in randomly).

The command block is a sort of bridge between the Minecraft world and its code, it's DNA code! See where I'm heading? The Command block allows the player to manipulate and alter the world around it. It's so powerful that it can be used to make literal computers in Minecraft.

The Wither in a way, is also a creation of man. It's a being of destruction, it targets and kills any mob on sight and destroys the blocks around it. Therefore, The wither is an uncontrollable monster that lives off the souls of living beings.

Ivor however, believed he could control the wither with the command block. But once you give a destructive being one of the most powerful items in existence, there's absolutely no going back. Idk how to transition so imma jump into cell biology :p

Somatic Cells grow, reproduce, and die to serve a purpose. Cells form our skin, blood, wound healing, etc. Cells naturally die from "programmed Cell-Death" by either Autophagy (degradation) or Apoptosis (Biochemical changes). If during the reproduction phase of a cell's lifespan, the DNA of the host were to be altered (perhaps by a certain command block), the result could be a cell that refuses to die, in other words, a cancer cell.

Cancer is an uncontrollable disease. A disease that endlessly grows and spreads all over the body. Cancer prioritizes its own survival above everything else. Cancer also adapts to its environment, that's a large reason why its been pretty difficult to find a cure for cancer!

Doesn't this sound familiar? As soon as the wither storm spawned, it started to consume the blocks and creatures around it, to protect the command block that had mutated its behavior. But it never stops, the wither storm just keeps growing and growing, always consuming, always spreading destruction. In a way, the with storm is a cancer to the Minecraft world both literally and metaphorically if you think about it. This comment is already wayy too long so I'll just end it here

I think you can see how much I love the wither storm<3 also I really wanna see a video of like the lore implications of Steve crossing into different games like gta, red dead, elden ring, etc. I've been seeing a theory going around that the Steve that's going through these universes eventually becomes Herobrine which is honestly really fascinating to me so like yippppeeeee XD

  3. I think the wither storm should have been harder to kill and bigger as well. While I like the idea of it actually being very weak once you get inside it. Overall great monster great idea

  4. now make ppl release Witherstorm into other games, like Steve was[and after equated with Herobrine to some], and call him the Witherzilla.

  5. The Witherstorm is a being that essentially comes from corruption, the thing that gave it life, the command block, is something that nobody should have in survival, expect from corruption (an admin being corrupt and giving themselves/others command blocks). And it's nature, shows that. It destroys everything, which kind of reminds me of humans, we destroyed a lot of things to keep ourselves safe, the witherstorm destroyed the world to keep its self safe, it directly parallels humans, and yet it is so much stronger and terrifying than us. It's very appearance is so unlike everything else we've seen in Minecraft, making it feel alien and like it doesn't belong.

  6. Anyone else remember being 7 and seeing a «how to summon the wither storm» on youtube and writing out the command and then realizing it wont work. Cuz the creator had a mod.

  7. me too dude, the wither storm is actually such an interesting enemy because it's everything minecraft is against. also AWESOME video, definitely deserved the algorithm boost 🙂

  8. The only thing I can think compare the wither storm to is SCP 096, its a massive threat that once activated will almost certainty kill hundreds of thousands and leave mass destruction in its wake, the only difference being that one is a much slower, but massive, building threat, that can be escaped for a short time, whilst 096 is a nearly immediate threat that gives an undefined brief period of safety upon activation, usually minutes, but you cannot escape it, nor delay it any further, no matter what you do. It knows your exact position at all times no matter where you are, will stop at nothing to reach it, and once it finds you it will tear you apart in the most brutal and swift manner it can. I honestly find both approaches towards inevitability extremely well done, the wither storms inevitability is uncertain at times, it gives days, sometimes even weeks of complete safety, but deep down its building itself up, and it leaves you with this sense of dread of “how much time is left before it reaches me?” Vs 096 where the inevitability is guaranteed, you saw the image, you have minutes to live before it reaches you and kills you, and likely hundreds of others if a picture of it is posted online, the only question now is whether you have minutes to dread, or seconds. Maybe that noise outside was distant screaming, maybe it wasn’t…

  9. It’s been said over and over before, but the soundtrack that follows wherever it goes in the game is what takes its feeling of dread even further. I remember playing the game for the first time when I was young and the sirens that I heard and giant basses made me feel straight up HOPELESS I was a kid of course but it stuck with me and even today its so impending and insane. The wither storm is THE embodiment of impending doom

  10. I think a pretty terrifying detail is that the wither storm still more or less act like a normal wither at first.

In vanilla minecraft, the wither attacks every mobs excepted those who are undead, as if "withering" life was it's only purpose.

But with a command block that embody quite literally "infinite possibilities" ? It goes from "destroy living creatures" to "destroy reality itself"

This is like an AI that was made for a restricted and simple purpose, but suddently that AI was granted every permissions, and, the AI, being programmed to do one specific thing, will do it,

But this time, without the "restricted" part.

  11. I disagree with it being "easy to kill" because of a couple reasons, the main one being the most powerful mortal weapon (known) the formidi-bomb couldn't kill it, the only way to kill it was to get inside to the command block itself and use a weapon enchanted by the same power as the command block, nothing else can harm this thing. On top of all that, using the command blocks power against itself, it still takes a few hits to actually break the block!
The only reason the witherstorm is "easy" to kill is because you're the protagonist. Without using the power of the very command block inside of the witherstorm it can't be defeated and ONLY ivor knew about the command block enchanted book

  12. When asked to imagine an image of infinity, I choose to imagine nothing, because nothing is an infinite thing, it cannot truly exist in its extreme and yet we have a concept for the lack of something. To me infinity is the potential of something and nothing, so it can only be expressed with nothing at all. The concept alone of thinking of nothing is still thinking of something, unattainable.
I just wanted to say some interesting sounding words

  13. There’s something about the wither storm when it’s probably one of the most memorable antagonists of MCSM as far as I know, to the point it’s even been made into mods
