  1. If the reason is confusion, I don’t know why Nintendo allows publishers to release the “Switch 2 version” of games with the options of free-to-upgrade, pay-to-upgrade, it does work with your previous save file, it does not work with your previous save file, the upgrade only applies to the base game and not the DLC, and “there’s no upgrade, you have to buy the whole game again”.

And that is after you check the list of Switch 1 games that you can’t play on Switch 2 because of differences in hardware/features.

I get some things are beyond Nintendo’s control, but saying it is about “not confusing customers” sounds really convenient for them.

  2. I don't see why third party developers could just sell a Switch 1 physical with a Switch 2 upgrade

Konami did just that with Vol. 2 of MGS master collection, but Capcom, Atlus and Square Anus seem to forget that exists

  3. One big difference between game key cards on switch and "game key discs" for playstation is that on Playstation you can backup your system and individual game data, therefore if you get ahold of a disc that requires day-1 patch to play, you can still preserve it through a backup and install it offline on a completely new system. That's not the case for Nintendo Switch, where your SD card is tied to your system and, as far as I know, you cannot plug it in into a new system while preserving the data. So while PS key discs, albeit requiring some additional steps, can be preserved, Nintendo Switch game key cards cannot.

  4. The argument for not letting keycards become carts is that some people might get confused so let's just confuse everyone? God forbid someone walks away happy, not on my watch.

  5. I think it’s just money. If you release a new game, sells a million on a cheap game key card – publisher makes more on the inti hype release of the game. Then if it releases a game on cart – they have to pay Nintendo more for those – but if there is less demand since it already sold they would be appeasing the fans and also paying Nintendo a minimal amount. So Nintendo says awe hell naw.

  6. If someone's not smart enough to know the difference between an actual cartridge and a game key card there shouldn't be playing video games or watching television or anything like that they should be reading a book or taking a walk or something get some blood flow to that brain😅

  7. Remasters of the first two Infamous games, you say? Too bad Sony doesn't have a development house who is known for their work on remasters. 😐

  8. Publishers are at fault for going for the game key card system but Nintendo sucks for creating it in the first place and having a "policy" for re-editions of game key card games as true cartridge releases.

  9. I am probably like most Switch 2 owners that are more likely to buy a game if it playable from the cartridge. Companies may try to increase profits by releasing a game as a key cart, but that often means I will be less likely to buy the game and wait for a sale or digital purchase. So companies are getting less money from people like me who will invest in a full cart, but will wait for sales on digital only. Maybe some people are still unaware they are getting a digital game with the key cart, but I think most of us are putting off purchases when we see that is the choice publishers made, and not because the game was over 64GB.

  10. People really should stop throwing around the word nostalgia. I mean, I NEVER play older games for that reason! I play them because they're still good in spite of mechanics limitations.

Can you imagine someone playing a whole 20+ hours game because of nostalgia? I can't. That doesn't motivate me at all. When I play games, what matters is the quality, is the fact I'm having fun with the experience. Not the fact that the game reminds me of a certain time. That feeling lasts about 2 minutes and I'm not even a big fan of it anyways.

I play Silent Hill 1 the same way I play any modern game: it's about how fun the game is. If it were just nostalgia, I would literally stop playing it after 2 minutes.

  11. One can't expect 3rd parties not being jewish. The ones buying for glorified digital distribution are the ones at fault here.

Once again the consumer being irresponsible for the long term

  12. I have friends and coworkers who don't game and all of them have come to all me about game key cards because it's become such a thing. Maybe not older generations but they notice the banner on the box for sure. It legitimately sounds like some casual games I know haven't bought a switch 2 specifically because they don't like it and assume ALL switch 2 games are game key cards.

  13. If more upper-middle management workers take redundancy then people with lower salaries will be able to keep their jobs, if the higher paid salaries accept more people will be able to keep their positions.

  14. Honestly idgaf what a single reviewer would have to say about gta6. VERY few of them will actually be honest with their reviews anyway. A vast majority will give it a nearly perfect score even if it wasn't good just because they know if they don't d**k ride Sony they won't get early access to whatever the next thing is. The review system is rigged and shouldn't be trusted tbh.

  15. Suckerpunch has a good track record of making something good when they are allowed to make what they want. It seemed crazy that they would go away from Sly Cooper, but Infamous ended up being great. Then it seemed even crazier that they would move away from Infamous, just to then make two great Ghost of games. At this point I think they have earned the right to make what ever they want to make and we will all be there to play it.

  16. i really dont understand why the gaming industry doesnt just adopt a blanket standard of having game devs as contractors. if everyone knows they will be limited to a single project it takes all the guess work about layoffs away entirely. it also gives the "employees" a better hand to negotiate since they arent W2 workers. im not an expert by any means, but its got to be better than the current sorting hat choosing who stays and who goes every few months.

  17. Key cards don’t count as physical sales. They want to be able to say later that physical sales are too low and trying to justify going to all digital in the future. Likely a strategy started before seeing how poorly it went for Sony.

  18. Always appreciate the news Jon, even if 90% of what you talk about in terms of games I have no interest in. However you’re professional and you get to need out on your obsessions for us daily

  19. Walmart changed the Nintendo branded price tag backing strip on just the Switch games. It is now twice as tall and covers the portion of the cases that say whether or not it is a game key card.

    Scummy.
