LYRICS

Life, it seems, will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters, no one else

I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free

Things not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this can’t be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel

Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me, but now he’s gone

No one but me can save myself, but it’s too late
Now I can’t think, think why I should even try

Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye

  2. When I was a teen, I had a lot of mental health struggles. I was 15 and planned to delete myself that night, and tried but I stopped myself almost too late. The reason is that I had this song playing in the background. Listening to the lyrics showed me that I’m not the only person that had problems, and I can carry on. The ambiguity of the ending became a positive one for me. I’m 43 now with a beautiful family, and I’m grateful.

I still struggle, because it never leaves, but I get through each day at a time.

Hang in there everyone, and thank you Metallica.

  3. Unpopular opinion but I'd love to see James play Fade To Black fully with an electric guitar , no acoustic. I really enjoyed the tone he had when he played it like that (1995-2009) . Love this song to hell and back!
