Angry Video Game Nerd episode 235: Maniac Mansion (NES). Happy Halloween!! The Nerd enters Lucasfilm Games’ cult classic point-and-click adventure, published on NES by Jaleco in 1990. A haunted house with a mad scientist, tentacles, killer plants, and a mysterious meteor sounds right up his alley, until he’s stuck dragging a cursor with the D-pad, guessing commands, pixel hunting in the dark, nuking the house, and blowing up a hamster in the microwave. Nintendo Power said even tuna heads would be hooked. We’ll see about that.

  1. Im also from this generation, but east europe, we never got original games, it were always pirate copies. To play a point and click, 90% of the time you needed a walktrough, usualy a copy written on a typewriter or printed on some ancient printer. Only recently, 35 years later, I found out they were actually "pay to win" games even back then, there was a paid phone number you called and there was an operator that gave you the solution when you got stuck. Is that really true? Cause we got no phone numbers like that around here off course, we were freshly out of soviet occupation.

  2. One of my favorite NES games of all time! I remember this game scaring the crap out of me! Especially when you went into the kitchen, with Nurse Edna standing at the fridge!

  3. Maniac Mansion is still my favorite Point n' Click. The replayability with different solutions and endings is what makes it really great. I with other PnC games did that.

  4. Wow, I loved the Nintendo Power throwback in general, takes me back to the first episode I watched of you via the episode of the same name. The topic on 5:54 about video games making you think was a great thing to bring up, with a punch line that made me laugh out loud at the end.

  5. At least there they showed u what u could do (open, look) and then just click. In old sierra games u had to write the whole sentence without knowing whats the items names. And im german, that was challenge

  6. No the advertising from our area always made me angry. The pictures and stuff that it showed what never looked anything like the actual game. I always wished the game looked like what I was advertised
