I have been saying the guardian lady is actually a manhunter manipulating the whole thing to get her results manhunters want.
The show runners confirmed that she is the manhunter during the "inside the episode" video at the end of episode 4

This show is so sick, but you can tell that they’re clearly hamstrung by a very careful budget for this first season while they were waiting to see how it would be received. That’s mostly why we haven’t gotten to see much ring action, but you’ve gotta believe that season 2 will be a completely different ballgame.
10:15 No. At that speed with John in a seatbelt with an airbag that wasn’t attempted murder. Attempted incapacitating injury because he is literally sleeping with the enemy and cant be trusted not to side with her, but definitely not a kill move.

I think we’re gonna get a moment when Hal calls jr by John and that’s how John knows it’s not Hal because he has never called him John almost like a “Nick” “Fury” moment

I think the guardian is working with the manhunter and the other guardians don’t know about John
When a Red Lantern ring chooses a user, it stops their normal heart and replaces their entire circulatory system with liquid red, that might be the reason for the blood eye drop thing. Especially Atrocitus asked John to find the Manhunter within 48 hours.
They sold this as True Detective, and it's been like True Detective. Season 2 & 3 of that show took some time to get rolling, but once it did that shit was fire!! I've loved this show since the kickoff, but it's really getting going now.
