Do No Harm | Official Trailer

What happens when medicine loses sight of its purpose?

For centuries, medicine has been guided by a fundamental commitment: to heal the sick and do no harm. But today, changing ideas about patient autonomy and the role of the physician are challenging that commitment.

It’s time to return to first principles. Hillsdale College is proud to present “Do No Harm: A Crisis in Medical Ethics,” a new four-part series which examines the principles at the foundation of medicine and some of the most difficult ethical questions facing doctors and patients today.

Episode 1, “The Foundations of Medical Ethics”, premieres October 29, only on YouTube.

Hillsdale College is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings” resulting from civil and religious liberty and “believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.” It pursues the stated object of the founders: “to furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary, scientific, [and] theological education” outstanding among American colleges “and to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils.” As a nonsectarian Christian institution, Hillsdale College maintains “by precept and example” the immemorial teachings and practices of the Christian faith.

The College also considers itself a trustee of our Western philosophical and theological inheritance tracing to Athens and Jerusalem, a heritage finding its clearest expression in the American experiment of self-government under law.

By training the young in the liberal arts, Hillsdale College prepares students to become leaders worthy of that legacy. By encouraging the scholarship of its faculty, it contributes to the preservation of that legacy for future generations. By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.

  1. What do you think Socialized medicine is? The government can kill anybody that irks them. When the country is bankrupt both financially and morally, and it is cheaper to kill us than cure us, or the god damned government just hates you, kiss your life good bye.. Communist China just massacred 300 million of its own citizens. Wait till we have Dr. Kovorkian running the Health Department and Dr, Thomas Parran as Surgeon General,, or Dr. Gottlieb, formerly running MKULTRA or Project Bluebird as your nursemaid? Oh, it couldn't happen here? It already has . Socialized medicine will be the death of the human race as we know it. PRIVATIZE HHS and safer we all will be. And surely you all know that HHS usurps half of our tax revenue right now!.

  2. Nurses take a 'First Do No Harm' Oath as well, but so many have violated that oath. I, for one, will NEVER violate my oath! I never have…I never will. I'd rather leave my profession of 40+ yrs than cause harm to a single human being or animal. Gd bless…Gd speed. THANK YOU, Hillsdale College!

  3. Remember folks… only a couple of centuries ago a household Butler had more esteem than a physician. Let that sink in… they've always always been DEATH DEALERS 💀

  4. I'm not sure this can be turned around. Too many doctors sold their souls to "wokeness" and lined their pockets (and the hospital's pockets) with filthy money. Those same "experts" have been training the younger ranks of physicians. The "slippery slope" has turned into a downhill ski run.

  5. I read somewhere that Stalin, when he was dying, didn't get medical care because he was afraid of "ideological doctors." Could doctors and nurses today be politically motivated, with injurious effects? What if, like some of the doctors of Stalin's day, our current medical community is corrupted by considerations other than caring for patients' health and well-being?

  6. 0:58 Risks TURNING?!!!! Those wheels of destruction have been turning so long they're flat.

They took away what Father gave us for free
Mixed their concoctions to turn a profit for greed
    First, do no harm!
    Out the window THAT flew
    While building their structures
    With plenty of money glue
    They harmed the body
    They harmed the mind
    They harmed the souls
    Of those left behind

    Treatments they have aplenty
    But never a cure
That knowledge gets killed or sent out of the country

"WE have the right to kill your baby for you and even advise it strongly if the prenatal screening doesn't look PERFECT"
"WE have the right to destroy your child's life by brainwashing them that they are born in the wrong body and if you don't like what WE do, then WE'LL just take them away from you."
    And now…
"If you're tired, weary, sick and alone, WE have the right to release your soul."

The Medical Industry has TURNED into something that Father is gong to SPEW! You'd be best advised into fixing those flats and turning it in a different direction.

  7. The principle that has done the most harm to the medical profession, to the entire academic discipline of medical education, and to the ethical and moral foundation of medical care is that if the patient can't pay, bill the government. An entire system of corruption grows from that precept. It grows and multiplies itself throughout many areas and aspects of medicine and human care. "First, do no harm." was intended to preempt the introduction of toxic practices into the accepted protocols of care. The love of money is the root of all sorts of evil is a cautionary adage that has never, some will say CAN never, and I am one of them, be proven untrue. We speak of a "wall of separation" between government and religion when we rightfully ought to speak of that wall as between medical care and government financial dependence. Slavery comes in disguise as well as in fetters.
