Blizzard Finally Made WoW For Regular People

WoW Forever looks too modern for some Classic players and too old-fashioned for some Retail players. But those two camps miss who Blizzard are trying to win back: the players neither version fully serves. The changes make a lot more sense once you put those players back in the picture.

  1. There must be a large number of 50+ year olds who played original WOW, EvE, EQ2 etc in early 2000’s via 56k Modems or ISDN, in their 30’s bringing up families and getting drunk on the “new to them” modern gaming, which included GameSpy and early Team Speak Servers.

I have fond memories of those days and fast forward 20+ years, I am more than happy to sit back and take the longer road to progression, now that I have the time to enjoy it, without family constraints.

I will embrace the slower pace… I had to deal with it in my 30’s and I can certainly do it in my 50’s.

  2. Thing is all these people screaming “stop changing my vanilla” were NOT even alive when original WoW came out. I was in the beta early’04… these changes are so minimal it’s not bothersome, and the most egregious ones are “toggles” (if you really want to look like a game from 20 years ago be my guest. But stay over there in your box and stop lashing out at exactly what he’s saying “the majority” of players.

  3. As an original 2004 WoW player, the only thing that would get me back is being able to hit 60 in a week or two of normal play. Or, if they just added a paid insta 60 option. I dont want any part of spending months leveling again. Did it multiple times, and its no longer fun.

  4. so you're saying it's for people who never played wow? i supposed. i don't see how liking either classic or retail makes you extreme or unhinged lol… i play classic because i enjoy it and it's fun. it was a super popular, mainstream game when it was released, it was fun then why wouldn't it be fun now?

  5. 5:15 – I fell off WoW because I burned out. I came back a bit late for Classic, then burned out again some time when TBC was out. I played Classic Era and burned out and stayed out for a couple of years. As I write this a few weeks before Forever comes out, I am leveling a Warrior in Era, because I wanted to experience once again starting from zero.

  6. I have 50,500 cheeve points 1,350 mounts, 1,050 toys, and 2,050 unique level 25 pets. Don’t want to start all over. Def on the far right of bell curve. To much time invested to let go of items that don’t transfer.

  7. "You can't make a game for everyone."

Blizzard's entire business has been built on taking complicated, niche game genres and making them accessible to a broader audience.

  8. cant play how I want its not for me they should of just left the dungeouns alone its what I liked to do . Ill spend my spare dollars on something ill enjoy instead. Im thinking they have no REAL plan ,the dropoff is going to be steep im thinking . Maybe Im wrong but we will just have to see.

  9. Vanilla Player here. I like Retail. Sure…I missed a few expansions after Draenor, but I still like it. I'm an adult ass adult now, so it being easy now is nice.

I played Classic and its SO EXHAUSTING. Its hard AND I have no idea where I'm going unless its from memory from like 20 years ago. And none of it was new, I've been there done that.

WoW forever is the perfect blend of both. Its hard like classic with the modern amenities that make playing WoW easy with a Full Time Job. People seem sociable like back in the day. My favorite part is it's classic, but with new content so there is something new for me to see after 20 damn years.

    This game is for me.

  10. The mindset needs to change soooo much for average WoW players now though. Soo many people will start forever with the same mindset as in classic or retail. imo you NEED to let go of becoming level 60 and metagame. Just enjoy the world at level 20,30 and eventually 60.. no need to get to 60 asap

  11. This kind of game is not for regular people. TWoW did the right thing, slow and steady and in the right way the of the journey is the goal. I dont think that any of the Retail and SoD playerbase will have their fun here OR blizzard wil change that and make it like Ascension in Style Classic Retail….

  12. As a retail player, I love the majority of what modern WoW gives me – I love having so much seasonal content to choose from, since I don't suffer from whatever it is the people who feel they need to do everything are afflicted with. Personally, I'm very glad all the casuals who wanted a little more from WoW Classic now have somewhere to go. Maybe now all those players who kept trickling in to try out M+, for whom interrupting while moving is a bit too much to do, will stay in WoW forever. We all win. =)

  13. I’ll always play the new xpac on one character for the new content/story but will be playing wow forever most of the time now. Then go back to retail right before the next xpac to level up some alts and finish whatever new content/story. I am in the middle 🤓
