If you want the most warcraft lore for the geek out moments in classic plus I would recommend playing any horde race. Not only will it give you another perspective but all the horde races took up residence in locations from the warcraft 3 campaign. The forsaken by far got the most lore significant starting zone.
The one thing i hope for the wow forever team is just that they never implement the J Allen Brack mindset of "you dont remember what it was like spamming trade chat for a group, now you just click a button." To which at the time my response was "Yes sir, I do remember. That is what made the game feel alive. You had to talk to people, build friendships, temporary as they may be, to go on these journeys with people whos faces you do not know and defeat challanges you can not beat alone. That is the soul of an MMO and the dungeon/raid finder system killed it." To the forever devs i would just say if i could, "you don't need to add systems like campfires to encourage encounters, encounters will happen organically. All you need to do is not add things that take away those encounters".
I think a large portion of the hate for Sky elves is coming from people who have opinions like "I think that looks woke so I hate it" and to that.. all I can really say is that the opinions of people like that aren't really valuable. Sky elves aren't pay to win because their racials aren't insane, and the new zone was fun and well laid out, without feeling like it was any easier or handholdy than any of the other zones. They are fine. It's fine to be disappointed it wasn't Ogres or something else you were hoping for, just remember that there's room for all that stuff to be added in the future.
Love your play through and can't wait for forever but you got 1 thing wrong in this video you said the alliance is the best you are right they are the best at dying…. FOR THE HORDE!!!!!!!!!!
Skyborne need SD models to fit the art style and then they'd be a lot better, right now they look so out of place. Personally I think they were a big mistake and a stupid thing to add at the very start, also the Horde/Alliance thing just seems super odd and asymmetrical in the favour of the Horde and it means when you see one you cannot tell which faction they're on instantly. Personally they've made it so I didn't buy the CE and I'll just be waiting until Hardcore to play, they killed the excitement I had. The good news is though that when private servers pop up, there will be servers that just get rid of them and I can play there.
if you feel like you'll have the time, I would highly encourage you to become an altaholic, and experience at least every races quests from like 1-20, and catch glimpses of those stories, also means you'll get to experience toying around with all the professions.
I SHOULD be excited about this, but after 20+ years of dealing with Blizzard's stuff, I don't trust them not to mess this up. Locking the Beta and new race behind a paywall is the first indication this is going to go badly. I'm not saying they give content for free, but this is already going a similar direction as Retail.

The Skyborn argument is valid, but it doesn't had to be done right now, u know? Classic + audience would be pretty satisfied without new races right on. Launch the freaking game, study it, make polls and what not, before adding something so risky and badly received like this.
I will never touch the skelves or their island. Nothing about them seems interesting, especially $30 interesting. But I am happy that I get to play a new imagining of WOW classic for just the subscription price. So I am happy beyond all my expectations. Even if there's unbalances, even if there's bugs. It's just a new experience from the original WOW experience I had that no other MMO ever was able to recreate.
It should be high elves and the ones to splinter off to the horde are the blood elves. If they are so hellbent on making an elf that is. Looks like some retail dev got bit in the ass by the good idea fairy and joined the classic team. Now WoW Disney please. The goofy shit has to go.

Faction and race-wise, IF you play as a horde, I think Undead would be the best stories for you. Their darker atmosphere seems to fit the tones that you compliment in your videos. Alliance is absolutely superior for sure, but if you play as Alliance maybe do Night Elf? As you haven't done as much Kalimdor content, it'd be a great change of storylines for you I think. Class-wise? Maybe trying a (magical) ranged class? I don't know if you've played other classes in classic, but the difference between Ranged and Melee is astounding to me especially when I was learning between the two. My favorite ranged is probably druid with mage being a runner-up. Hunter might be something you want to try as well, though I'm not fond of them myself. Can't wait to see the next step of your journey!
Can anyone help me? Would I enjoy Wow Forever? I played league and metin2 all my life (I was broke even If I bought Wow my 2004 PC wouldn't handle it), tried FF14 free trial and absolutely enjoyed it but cant buy it in my country. The problem is that Wow's retail free trial was kinda meh till lvl 20 and I didnt really figured if I would enjoy the game.
I will never understand why they didn't make skyborne for Alliance and ogres for Horde but it alll still looks great. You should play a Forsaken paladin for sure. For the Horde!

I totally agree that you need some new content and a new kind of elves aren't neccessarily a bad idea. It's the execution that bothers me. They are so… retail. I hate that you can choose to be any color when it used to be that you could only be a few different colors that fit in the theme of the race. Like if you're gonna make them blue don't let us choose black or white. Just shades of blue, at most a very pale blue that looks whit-ish. They are also extremely bouncy and the art style just clashes with the rest of the game. I wish they reworked them.
You know, if the announcement of Wow Forever came with J. Allen Brack being drawn out onto stage in a set of stocks and his saying "Yeah, sorry about the whole 'You think you do, but you don't' miss fire"…. then I might, might just, possibly have faith in the Forever product. Feel free to play what ever you want in Forever, but it would be cool to see someone so interested in the lore like you play a Forsaken. I have played the beta and I like how the implement the Forsaken Paladin. But that's just my 2 cents.
10:42 there is existing "classic vanilla lore" (their words) on the Shen'dralar that explicitly states "They were never exiled from Kalimdor, nor have any Shen'dralar become high elves". While the Skyborne are specifically "high elven exiles" from Kalimdor and decendant from the Shen'dralar. So I'd say it's a contradiction and a retcon. But it's a different timeline so I guess it's fine.
Maybe you should create the same race/class again so you can see the new things and the differences compared to your current run. Otherwise you might not appreciate that some changes are new and you migh tthink they were part of the base game
You should play an Undead. I think you would really enjoy the lore & connection to events from WC3. Plus experiencing the contrast & completely different vibe to the Human starting zone is just totally worth it. Make sure to pick PVP ruleset this time 😉
My issue with the elves is they don't fit the SD world at all. Very out of place, especially the druid forms. they have that retail glowstick look. It definitely needs to be toned down, literally.
Word. The expansion model is awful. It was fun the first couple times but then I totally got bored of it. I'm a player who likes to play 1 main character and alts are just for fun. I know there are people who don't have any main chracters etc. For those the expansion model doesn't matter.. they are probably not as attached to their characters and the accomplishments.
When Classic launched I was very happy to start it over. We had a lot of fun and I finally completed Naxx which I didn't in the original and I got all the best loot. Then came TBC and I unfortunately didn't want to pay the cloning of my character to Era realms at the time. So I went to TBC and got bored of it at level 66 or so. Then I quit the game.
Later I went to see if I would actually take my character back to Era realms but no.. they removed the cloning service. So thats it. Haven't played Classic since.
My only concern with Skyborne is the flying island. If they continue adding new content this way, we will have ton of out of place flying zones in a few years.
Good to know they are looking at your stuff, personally, I fully stopped playing after Dragonflight and even that expansion I played very little. But few months ago I found your series of classic and after few videos, you managed to pull me back into the game once again, even before knowing anything about Classic+ maybe releasing. Now I´m already playing beta and trying to look at the game through your vision and enjoying it so much more than I would have guessed few months ago.

The selfs seems to fit nicely – the zone is smooth and they’re more…..familiar than blood elf’s somehow, probably the assets they’re used.

Chris knows that it needs to be ramped up to drive hype. The same reaction to blood elves is similar to the skyborn.
Still doesn't change that the models are completely off and they're being lazy in so many aspects.

PvP has always and will always be the forgotten minority of the game. You get use to it and still find ways to make it fun.

Metzen's writing quality has taken a significant downturn since the RTS days, him being involved at all is a negative thing.

IMO, of course, classic didn't need more elves. It needed goblins. They were playable in WC 2. They were in Turtle Wow. 'Nuff said.
