Balatro but You Get 1 Baron Every Ante

Hey folks! In today’s video we’re back with more modded Balatro. For this run, I used a mod that starts the game with one Baron and adds a Baron every time I increase the Ante. Of all the videos in this series, this one was the closest to needing multiple attempts due to Baron being a pretty useless Joker in the early game resulting in many close calls in the first 8 Antes. Once I was able to stabilize with High Card levels and a little bit of deck fixing, the scoring really started to take off in Endless, though. Enjoy the video!

Balatro is a poker roguelike deck building game centered around creating powerful synergies and winning with big hands. In it, you can combine valid poker hands with unique Jokers in order to create varied synergies and builds. No real money is involved, but you can earn enough chips to beat blinds, including challenging boss blinds, to make it to the next ante and progress your run!

  1. I feel so seen when he commented how he should be going for diamonds but they look so bad and went for hearts. Diamonds is so unpleasant to look at in my hand

  2. admittedly I was half expecting during the "i'm not trying to optimize the run i'm maintaining the concept of the video" talk that he'd stop and buy the Blueprint just for the bit

  3. Intuitively the whole discussion about steel cards vs 1 baron feels so wrong.
If you have 7 cards in hand and 30 jokers- each joker trigger every card once (or twice with red seal) multiplying the score 1.5x each time.
If we were to make the cards steel they would instead trigger three times.
7 cards, triggered by 30 jokers -> add the red seal and you effectively have 14 cards in hand -> add steal you effectively have 21 cards in hand.
How could adding one Baron be even remotely more valuable?
Can someone math this out for me or is strummer wrong?

  4. On the "impossible/unbeatable seeds" debate:

I truly believe every seed in Balatro is beatable with perfect information. You might not be able to win all of them without knowing you have to make an eccentric low probability play on a particularly egregious one, but knowing that, it becomes beatable.

My theory for a truly unbeatable seed is one that is bugged in such a way that: it has no Jokers or Planet cards in the shop; it has no Buffoon Packs other than the first one, which can only contain Blueprint and Brainstorm; it has no Spectral Packs in the shop until Ante 10; it has no Celestial Packs in the shop until Ante 10; there are no enhanced or edition cards in the Standard Packs; the only tarot cards it generates are suit changers and The Lovers; the only vouchers on offer are Magic Trick, Illusion, Hieroglyph, Petroglyph, Reroll Surplus, Reroll Glut, Overstock, Overstock Plus, Clearance Sale and Liquidation; and there are no voucher skips, no spectral pack skips, and no hand upgrade skips. Due to the way Balatro is, this isn't _impossible_, but the odds of one such seed appearing to you randomly is as close to you getting a seed where every Joker is negative, including the Judgement ones, at random.

  5. If you want to do Baseball Card, my proposition isn't to overwrite it's rarity. That's cheating, after all, and this series is all about playing the game as LocalThunk intended it to be played. To modify the game in such a way would make the entire series invalid and I would be very disappointed in you if that were to happen.

Anyway, instead of getting only a Baseball Card every Ante, get a Baseball Card AND a Diet Cola. Everybody loves Cola.
