  1. I disagree that EA may sit on Mass Effect forever, it's a fungible franchise that fans are thirsty for. I'll hold that hopium that there's a timeline where Larian Studios gets their hands on that franchise.

  2. Patrick Stewart saw videogames differently because he was an actor, not a celebrity. He acted in Shakespearian theatre because he had a passion for acting and narrative, and he could see those things in places that others couldn't because he had that background.

  3. I think the problem with video game studios is the budget for video games now. It costs way to much to make and develop games nowadays, an its hard to swing a profit if the game costs hundreds of millions of dollars.

  4. I've been here since the beta of The Division. Constantly going on about warcraft will definitely cause an unsub!

If Blade is coming out, they'll close the studio after it sells well.

Though, honestly, we need less games. I miss the pandemic. So happy to bw taking 3 months off work and get through some backlog between GTA

  5. I hope airframe ultra is good. Played it on one of the steam next fest demos last year and it played really badly. Couldn’t believe how badly the on-foot sections played.

  6. you talk about layers and about individual employees losing their jobs curious to know how rich the CEO of these companies are; how truly financially down bad they are, are their actions to fire people
    justified

  7. I don't believe Avi Lewis was saying that Bioware should be held up by the Canadian taxpayer and made to make mass effect. More that the government should work with employees to secure funding for the studio and probably take it on as a public investment. Not necessarily to continue making Mass Effect but to continue making games, presumably for themselves. I like Avi and he's clearly the future of this country but I also agree that regardless of how you read his statement, it is at odds with the reality of building games in 2026 of the size that Bioware is known for. That being said, the games industry is huge in Canada with just about every single major publisher having some kind of office in this country. At this point, the games industry is a considerable revenue maker for the country let alone for individual provinces like BC, and Quebec. A conversation does need to be started about how we can stop corporations from exploiting the workers here more than they already do (e.g. lower wages in comparison to american counterparts doing the same work), let alone laying off large portions of a work force that's officially part of the backbone of Canadian economics.

  8. Surely you'd always expect console sales to decline month on month, excluding during big new game releases. There are less people who don't have one.

  9. Yotei cost more to develop than Tsushima and didn’t sell as many copies. It’s not rocket science and I’m disappointed that you went with the angle of “it did well but they fired people anyway.” It’s a half-truth.

  10. thanks so much for adding the gift subscription! I doubt my brothers will see this here but I got them two for christmas. Also props to the team behind the site, I was so surprised yall reached out to tell me you added it after I asked if giifting subscriptions was possible a few months ago. I cant wait to brag about that to them.
