There's adaptation then there's outright dismissal of the base story. Just like Liet being female which makes no sense as Chani was his daughter. They are basically just using Frank's world and bastardizing his vision. I'm not a purist but when you grossly change the story it's basically just a different story, a different vision. I'm guessing this appeals to people who don't read or have no intention of reading the original novels. The same thing happened to the series. Let me adapt your car by putting the steering wheel in the trunk and the seats backwards……it's more fun that way right. This is about making money. No plans to waste my time in the theater watching this. Paul's story was such a small part compared to the entirety of the series, but screwing it up derails the future expansion. Thumbs down.
Alia taking names is the biggest takeaway. Her body count is crazy
I find it funny that Frank Herbert did not like the dune movie from the 80's but i swear he would have loved it over what's been done. Don't get me wrong i enjoy the movies but they go so far off the source i have to just turn my brain off to enjoy it for what it is which is very hard…
Western films are obsessed with main characters who are indistinguishable from the villain. That's the result of an ongoing culture war in America.

I'm quite fine with the movies showing the parts the books only vaguely imply sometimes. Let them see the rebellion, let them see the murders and the evils. Just take it as a parallel timeline for the sake of better exploring the story in another medium.

This is modern politics re-charactirizing book characters to suit that modern narrative.
Chani was full on board for the jihad, she even understood why Paul married Irulan. A lot of this book is Irulan poisoning Chani to prevent her from getting pregnant.
I have no freaking idea why Denis chose this route outside of feeding into modern political and culture war bs.
Following the book would have been so much better.
Two central characters are ruined this entire series: Chani and Lady Jessica
I don't remember the books reading that Paul is a truthsayer. I was afraid the director would change to much of the books and it looks like he has, unfortunately. Alia practicing human sacrifice. WTF. ?? I was very excited about Dune III, but now I am concerned. I will attend the movie with no expectations. However I do like what the guild navigators look like in their capsules.
This was MADE for theaters.
In Lost Wages, NV, we've watched Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Constantine, a bunch of older good ones. I hope they keep showing more classics!!!
