Angry Video Game Nerd episode 235: Maniac Mansion (NES). Happy Halloween!! The Nerd enters Lucasfilm Games’ cult classic point-and-click adventure, published on NES by Jaleco in 1990. A haunted house with a mad scientist, tentacles, killer plants, and a mysterious meteor sounds right up his alley, until he’s stuck dragging a cursor with the D-pad, guessing commands, pixel hunting in the dark, nuking the house, and blowing up a hamster in the microwave. Nintendo Power said even tuna heads would be hooked. We’ll see about that.

Hmm cool vid but I was expecting Friday the 13th and a nightmare on elm street revisit
Im also from this generation, but east europe, we never got original games, it were always pirate copies. To play a point and click, 90% of the time you needed a walktrough, usualy a copy written on a typewriter or printed on some ancient printer. Only recently, 35 years later, I found out they were actually "pay to win" games even back then, there was a paid phone number you called and there was an operator that gave you the solution when you got stuck. Is that really true? Cause we got no phone numbers like that around here off course, we were freshly out of soviet occupation.
One of my favorite NES games of all time! I remember this game scaring the crap out of me! Especially when you went into the kitchen, with Nurse Edna standing at the fridge!
for the love of god, play day of the tentacle is like the best point and click game ever besides monkey 2
I never played Maniac Mansion but I did play Day of the Tentacle in computer class in 8th grade.
It was an amazing, fun game on C64 as well as Zack McCraken.
0:20 you know that guy on the cover right next to the tentacles looks very similar to the AVGN.
I used to have this on PC back in the day. Loved it!
Cool game.
These episodes lately have been much better! Less over the top forced anger. I love it. Feels like the old days.
First game I ever bought for PC with my own money… hard but fun.
More point and clicks hopefully

"Open the Bush." – That is what she said.
Thank you for the upload!!!! ❤❤❤
Hey around 4:57 reminds of a Japanese mega man 4 rom hack, rockman 4 minus infinity, where to start the game, you have to press a and start at the same time or something like that.
Maniac Mansion is still my favorite Point n' Click. The replayability with different solutions and endings is what makes it really great. I with other PnC games did that.
The soundtrack alone to this game is worth having in your library. This game is one of those love or hate it. For the era the replay value was fantastic…still is honestly.
Is mafia old country worth playing?
4:58 – "When starting the game is a problem, you know you're in for some FuCk!!" lol.
mandela effect! didnt you used to advertise nordvpn???
Raddddd
0:34 – that is so eerily spot on look-a-likey. almost too eerie… fake news. 😀 😀 😛
I love seeing AVGN with a beard. I think it adds to his older style. 😊
Another great episode, you've been nailing it out the park lately. And love the new look, keep it up!
that character is lifting weights with his dick…what a maniac
I think this guy is a nerd ❤
its like a resident evil game on the nes without zombies?
10:30 throwback to Surge. Wish I could taste that drink again. And Vault
5:45 no, never TAKE them. Only GIVE
Wow, I loved the Nintendo Power throwback in general, takes me back to the first episode I watched of you via the episode of the same name. The topic on 5:54 about video games making you think was a great thing to bring up, with a punch line that made me laugh out loud at the end.
My favourite point-and-click is Hugo's House of Horrors, but Maniac Mansion is a close second!
One of my favorite games growing up, my brother hated it.
Great episode!
Funniest is that when I played this first time as a kid (on c64) it was scary asf. The first kitchen spook got me into a really scared mood right away 😆
Perfect timing with the release of Tenebris Somnia!!
At least there they showed u what u could do (open, look) and then just click. In old sierra games u had to write the whole sentence without knowing whats the items names. And im german, that was challenge
Please do chuck rock on the snes ive been waiting years to see this shitty game from my childhood on AVGN
No the advertising from our area always made me angry. The pictures and stuff that it showed what never looked anything like the actual game. I always wished the game looked like what I was advertised
Dude it's absolutely hilarious that there's a nerd in that magazine and game that looks so much like AVGN. It's like a prophecy or something
