I was about to bash the game as "just another incremental game", but I appreciate its own genuine sense.
i hope they don't change the shapes but add uniqueness to them, like chess pieces for example.
and you don't really control how war and or how solders move when in all out battle. so it might be wiser to not add depth to the tactics. maybe add iq meter for example. or add generals with the ability to control how solders should act "aggressive commander, flank commander, reserve commander, etc".
Its better to have heavy cavs in the front than on the sides, they're like war elephants

Baron, commanding your units is possible. You can see the controls for command mode in the settings. This will allow you to hold troop formations.
Though this might be locked to certain modes only
