The Airbnb Meltdown

Airbnb recently updated their rules banning hosts from asking guests to do “unreasonable chores” Many hosts weren’t too happy about these changes

When you think about this video is basically free promotion for airbnb, they should pay me I think

  1. It would be psycothic to expect guests to wash sheets and towels and stuff, but taking out the trash and washing the dishes sounds like common decency to me. Not only towards the host but towards yourself who would be staying among trash and dirty dishes then.

  2. What this means is this issue has grown to a point where it’s actually affecting Airbnb profit margins, not just the hosts. What’s funny is the hosts thinking people are so desperate to stay at their properties specifically they think the users will follow them to a new platform.

  3. Every Airbnb owner that's crashing out about this probably has policies like:
-Fix the dry wall or you WILL get charged $200
-Wash your own laundry! Detergent will NOT be provided for you!
-Paint my house or you WILL get charged $200
-Pick my kids up at daycare! They are YOUR responsibility not MINE!
-Walk my dogs or you WILL get charged $200

  4. Laugh at these rich people's misery and rage. They deserve it because they look down on everyone every day of the week. I do not feel an ounce of sympathy for these crybabies. They can learn to change the bed sheets and do some dishes, or pay someone to do it, it's not the end of the world. They joined a platform where the hosts are expected to provide SERVICE and it's entirely their fault for not understanding that.

  5. I’m not a fucking pig, so whenever I make a small mess I clean it up anyways. I don’t trash any airbnbs I stay at, but I also don’t steam the floors and deep clean every nook and cranny.
But, for hosts to tell you to wash the damn sheets is wild. I feel like thats bait for some guests who don’t know how to work a washer to oversuds the washer, and the host charge them for a brand new washer. Or tell them to use bleach but have one set of sheets be like black or red, and then charge guests for new sheets.

  6. Seriously though: Washing the dishes and cleaning up after yourself should be a bare minimum if you ate at that that home or made a mess there . Perchance the cleaning fee should be levied if the guest failed to do such things or as refundable deposit.

  7. Wash dishes after use sure. But you still need to wash them again before a new guest arrives just in case.

Sounds like a lot of wealthy owners, particularly boomers who think they're above working anymore, or don't want to play a cleaner to do it as they don't live in the same city as the accommodation

  8. The only cleaning rule I understand is cleaning the dishes you used and putting rubbish in the indoor bin. Anything more than that while charging a cleaning fee is insane!
