Brawl was the best thing that has happened to the Melee scene actually. I don't think Melee would have lasted this long if Brawl were close enough.
Because TRIPPING !!!
when i was a kid, my siblings and i called the general feel of brawl "gooey"
Outside of the neckbeards circlejerck, nobody likes the superfast gameplay. Not for play, not for watch.
God, Brawl is so ugly to look at, it got hit with the "brown and bloom" ray of the era isntead of the frutiger one (Like Mario Galaxy), Brawl is the ugliest smash game yet, not the biggest fan of the "creamy low contrast" look Ultimate has either but it's still far more colourful than Brawl.
When the casual party game plays like a casual party game:
I never noticed Brawl was slower. I just noticed it trips a lot. Melee was never fast for me in the first place. Cause I played it slow paced.
meell
Melee players are fast.
Sakurai: "nOoO!! yOu cAn'T mAkE mY gAmE cOmPeTiTivE!!"
Brawl's cutscenes are so fun they get uploaded to YT.
Sakurai: "nOoO!! yOu hAvE tO pLaY tHe gAmE tO sEe tHe cUtScEnEs."
In essence, half of the Smash games are Sakurai just emulating Nintendo's mentality of malding at their fans deciding what fun is instead of following their preset decision.
no one hates smash more than nintendo
I don't care how much competitive players complain. Smash was always meant to be a casual party game. You shouldn't be surprised when a casual party game plays like a casual party game.
Soulcalibur IV felt like molasses too, probably for the same reason, same year
The game wasn't made for hardcore tryhards. It's a game to play with your friends first and foremost. Not something to sweaty tryhard over.
0:21 bits like this are why i kick my feet and giggle whenever you upload
We love big combos
Oh, I lost a local (casual) Brawl tournament thanks to tripping once. Tried to dash off a platform for a kill, tripped and got up smashed.
No excuse for a shit game.
this guy sounds like a Vat19 ad
I’m really glad Sakurai did this. I probably never would’ve gotten into Smash were it not for Brawl and its casual play. My siblings and cousins had so much fun playing and making stages to fight on. Subspace Emissary is amaaazing.
めっちゃ分かる、Xほんま別ゲーなんよなあ
UIとか音楽とか含めてDXのスタイリッシュな感じが好きだった
あとXって余計なモードやオプションが多く感じた(コインシューター、何かとマルチプレイ)
MY LEGG!!!!!

there is a timeline where brawl wasn't quite as neutered but instead opened the way for a version of competitive Smash where a curated list of items became tournament standard. it's a shame we're in this one.
As someone who had no one to play smash with growing up and only played vs CPU, even I thought Brawls gameplay was a MASSIVE downgrade as a kid. It just felt like running through molasses and I couldn't bully the cpus in nearly as fun ways as I could in melee. Oh, and even in single player, tripping is INFURIATING. Project M is honestly not just an improvement for playing against others, it makes subspace and classic significantly more fun as well.
I'm glad Ultimate has dropped a lot of the weights that Brawl brought in, but even then you can very much tell they still purposely kept certain things from working and of course patched any fun techs or bugs. And of course, let's not forget, the smash 4 special, release DLC characters and do nothing for their fucking balance after.
As much as I love Sakurais artwork, personality, and general feel his games have, I wouldn't mind seeing the next smash being a refresh and made by someone new just to try something new.
