With those prices alot of people will move to PC
If Bioware truley cared for its audience like they claimed it did, they wouldn't be shut down. Good riddence.
I think you should rename these videos "This bleak in videogames", because sure as anything that's how it's been feeling.
Hot take here but House House is hurting gamers more than the company. Keep politics out of gaming and let Xbox players play your game ffs
I am one of probably many people who, as a primarily pc gamer, wanted a ps5 at launch but found it impossible to get my hands on due to scalpers.
When I finally could get a ps5, I didn’t see the point at the time since there were hardly any exclusives to play on it that justified the price point, so I waited.
Since then, the glacial pace of exclusive releases and the rise in prices has held me back from ever committing to buying one and at this point, I figured I would just wait till the next generation since I didn’t want a console that would be obsolete in a few years.
Now I’m looking at a console potentially worth about as much as my pc to play… what? 2-3 exclusives maybe over a few years? I was a willing customer, but if I don’t feel like I’m getting my money’s worth, why would I keep buying? This feels to me like the final death knell of the console market.
Could someone please make a good Anthem? I'm probably one of few, but I actually liked the flying mechanic. Felt pretty cool, although it couldn't go for too long 😅
Oops heard wrong, but yeah no matter Biowares history Veilguard made me hate them. Destroyed what we achieved, destroyed what we saved, twisted the evil mage supremacy pro slavery empire into something fitting their taste disregarding lore and any sense of congruity. Preachy, bratty, irresponsible and annoying characters that can't take criticism and takes away the players agency in the direction on how to deal with them.
Since that game i have reveled in any negative consequences Bioware has had.
Lets hope the franchises are sold to someone that would actually respect the setting.
Well that settles it, I would now never buy Big Walk now! Any game studio that supports a terrorist state isn’t getting my money or positive word of mouth
One thing I think that is important about the Bioware situation is that many of the old guard who made Bioware what we know it as left before/during Anthem development.
Drew Karpyshyn lead/senior writer for KotoR, the first two Mass Effect games, early Baldurs Gate games, etc. He was effectively the backbone writer for many of Biowares big titles and he left forever in 2018 before Anthems release.
James Olhen was a "senior creative director" basically he was a comic book store owner + dungeon master that got hired by early Bioware to help them make RPGs. Lead Designer of Baldurs Gate, BG2, NWN, KotoR, Dragon Age, etc. He left Bioware before Anthems release in 2018.
David Gaider worked in as a hotel manager before his friends suggested him to early Bioware leadership, he got the job and his first real role was as a writer for BG2. He then went on to write for NWN, KotoR (being THE guy behind HK-47). He finally got to be lead writer for Dragon Age Origins. He started as lead writer for Anthem but let the company in early 2016 and the story had to be rewritten.
Brent Knowles was a designer who worked on BG2, NWN, Jade Empire, and Dragon Age Origin. He left Bioware in 2009 in the lead up to DA2 because he wanted to focus on more tactical combat and party based things in roleplaying games from which DA2 was shifting away from towards a more action flavor. He went on to write a lot.
Mike Laidlaw was the creative director behind most of Dragon Age (the first 3 games), he worked as a writer for Jade Empire and the first Mass Effect before his promotion and general "leadership" with Dragon Age. He left Bioware in 2017 in the leadup to Anthem as Dragon Age 4 was cancelled and some other "Dragon Age guys" followed him.
Ray Muzyka one of the founders of Bioware left in 2012 which was around the time EA was saying single player games were dead, Mass Effect 3 launched, and largely he left under those EA shifts of the time.
Greg Zeshuk another founder of Bioware left in 2012 for nearly identical reasons. He does craft beer and beer review stuff now. His restraunt/brewery is actually sorta nice if you ever get to go.
Obviously this is not an extensive list but it should be enough to show that Bioware died many years ago, and it was just the necrid corpse still shambling along under misguided investments. Understand that for the past decade someone like David Gaider or James Olhen would NOT be welcomed at Bioware they could not get hired there without their legacy no matter their known talents. Instead this misguided investments wanted different sorts of people regardless of their skills or lack there of.
Rumors say that Mass Effect Universe was 80% completed and they looked to have it launch November 2027. Dantics confirmed that he was part of a "Mass Effect Council" where he and other offered feedback on the game. It was going to be a Mass Effect meets Hitman/007 game. Bioware wanted to buy their independence and EA shut them down over it.
this week in the things you love are being killed
good ridance that bioware finally died off, now they can stop butchering my favourite franchises, this was a long time coming, and now they can finally join their beloved 44%
I'm literally vibe coding a game at the moment, just to see if I can.
i know yours isnt a political channel so i appreaciate you reading and explaing the househouse statement. on ya
20:20 my man I'm so happy you talked about the big walk boycott
16:15 he’s not wrong, but it’s also his opinion and view. Logically sound
I honestly wonder what the logistics would be for physical sales of video games on demand. What I mean by that is all games are digital, and physical are not shipped to stores, but you can order a physical disc of your game if you’re willing to pay a bit more.
You could even choose which version of the game you want to be printed to the disc, just in case you want the game to be fully patched up.
I just imagine that the illegal and logistical problems would make this plan really difficult
Buying Helix / PS6 on day 1 will be best or worst financial investment.
I truly appreciate your gaming only point of view.
I'm sorry but saying that good writing might have saved them is both cope and pouring salt in the wound. Publishers do not give a shit about good writing, that doesn't even scan to them as any kind of criteria for whether or not to fold a studio.
Hi-Fi Rush was brilliantly written and it didn't save them, it didn't save Visceral. Bioware isn't at fault for this. EA was thrashed them for almost 2 decades, I can't imagine any company maintaining the benchmark whilst undergoing constant turn over and mismanagement
4:26 Agreed, Mass effect andromeda, then Dragon age veilguard, BioWare aren’t who they were, was mostly skeptical for the next ME game
Honestly, fuck microsoft, fuck sony, fuck ai. We should all take a year off from funding the CEOs and work through our libraries before they get taken away. The repeated closures and layoffs of studios and their staff can be traced back to APPALLING choices and strategies pushed by short sighted CEOs chasing quick cash because they are ALL chasing the “line myst go up” shit some of them experienced during covid. Consumers have the power here, and it’s high time we exercised that power and showed these fucks we’re not interested in cash grabs and ai slop. Unless we are, in which case we deserve everything we get. Sorry, i’m just so tired of this race to the bottom we seem to be caught in 😔
EA did set BioWare to fail but ultimately, BioWare killed itself.
This is such a dumb take. Yeah Bioware had been a shell of a studio before it closed but there was every opportunity for Mass Effect 5 to work with the writing talent involved. Comebacks exist and sadly we will never see what could be
15:30 15:49 15:56 Why are these specific comments about "AI" are spelled "AL"? Whoops…
If Xbox wants to do exclusives again that’s fine but they can’t just decide to permanently take away pre-existing IP that is already been pre-established as multi platform.
Like call of duty Minecraft etc. That I’ve already been released on all hardware leave them be do not just take them away or discontinue support for them.
If Microsoft wants to go back to a healthy gaming market going all exclusive 100% on everything they put out will not help in the slightest especially when we’re living in a game economy that requires you to fork out nearly $10,000 just to buy three gaming consoles & that’s not including the controller peripherals or the games that would come with a console purchase.
like if you wanted to buy two consoles in Australia now that’s nearly $6000 guaranteed. I can buy a real car with that kind of money a very crappy very old really used car but still a functioning car nonetheless..
Just go back to the way things were before all of the console craziness got two out of hand and even balance between exclusives and multi platform products & yes if you develop future ports of the same multiplatform game make it multi platform cutting off portions of your customer based from other gaming markets. Is it gonna financially help? It’s only gonna make it worse because you’re training it off with the expectation people are gonna fucking drop the thousand dollar hardware they currently have for another piece of thousand dollar hardware.
This isn’t the 2000s where $200 was the maximum amount of money you can charge for a console $200 alone will literally be the cost of two full price games or two video game controllers.
Just trust that people will come if you leave the door open don’t close the door and expect people to break in on their own and eat that financial overhead for you..
Do you think we can decompile Mass Effect, and write our own stories?
All the critically acclaimed games you mentioned were made at least over 10 years ago. Andromeda was trash, Anthem was trash, and Veilguard was trash. The Bioware you married is not the Bioware you divorced
EA killing Bioware was a mercy kill like putting down a sick animal. Treasure the good times in the past, but it was necessary to end their suffering.
There’s no future in which an $1,800 console makes sense for the mainstream gaming market. The economics are backwards.
If games continue to cost hundreds of millions of dollars to develop, publishers need enormous audiences to recoup those investments. That means selling as many copies as possible, or supplementing sales with ongoing revenue from in-game spending.
But if the price of entry keeps increasing, the potential audience shrinks. And if fewer people own the hardware, publishers have fewer people to sell their games to.
Just look at the PS5 Pro. It represents a tiny fraction of PS5 sales, yet the industry seems increasingly focused on premium hardware aimed at a relatively small audience. That might make sense as a niche business, but it doesn’t solve the underlying problem: AAA games need mass-market audiences to justify their budgets.
You can’t keep increasing the cost of making games while simultaneously making it more expensive for people to play them. Eventually, something has to give.
Mercy kill for everybody. No more trash tier entries in beloved franchises.
well, big ups to the guy from Xbox actually being honest about their use of AI, 'cause he's right. Literally every facet, every demographic, every platform, everything is in AI. Kids, students, memes, music, coorporations, marketting, hell even ur nan's prolly used AI at some point or another – yet ppl are so adamantly against its use in video games?? Even if its just simple asking questions/advice to a chat-bot, u best believe AI's being used in damn near every game produciton.
20:36 developers are screwing with their own games over shit like this and people want to convince you BioWare failure has nothing to do with politics
you're crazy if you think the Phantom Blade Zero devs actually regect genAI and aren't using it for coding
This is NOT the Bioware people came to love. This version of Bioware was something else wearing its skin. Listing classic games includes none of the current releases. Those were bad. No one feels for a company that wanted "to own the chuds" more than putting out good games. THE. END.
