  2. honest question

did anyone complain about the dead space remake with their own version of a scent trail? I think the only difference in the two games in that aspect is you had to press a button in dead space and wolverine it was just always on which would be annoying.

  3. I was born in 2008 act man are you calling me old?! You think I ain't hip wit da fellow kids?! I know all about that cool new forknife thing the kids are talking about

  4. I feel like another reason for hand holding is because games these days are really unpolished and developers don't want you going around and exploring they would tell you always where you need to go and the average player does that and never discovers issues

  5. Games are getting dumber, because people’s I.Q are dropping every year. Insomniac just jumped the shark with mechanics, it’s the next batch of 20 year olds to come that’ll need the hand holding. Idiocracy here we come.

  6. The fun, dare I say ironic, thing about "Wolverine is a game you rent from Blockbuster over the weekend" remark is that in the 1990s and (early) 2000s, games were deliberately made harder for the North American market. The official explanation often was "American gamers want a challenge" from the companies who did that, but it was so that you couldn't finish a game in just a weekend or two. Especially with JRPGs, that's why some of them were such grindfests. Working Designs and …. drumroll …. Sony were common offenders.

  7. Even great games like Onimusha are having this issue. There was one part where there was a shadow puzzle, and I figured it out about 0.5 seconds before the gauntlet character just straight up solves it for you. I was happy I figured it out on my own right before the game just straight up gave the answer. Wtf is the point of a puzzle if you're going to solve it for the player?

  8. Feels like this is just a cycle video games go through. Back when Dark Souls released, one of the aspects that made it so mainstream was the fact that it wasn't handholding you at all and that it was difficult, following a stream of similar issues people had with handholding in years prior. For a time it got lessened but slowly it crept back.

  9. Insomniac have been a proper workhorse for PlayStation Studios, releasing way more than pretty much any other first-party studio. Whether that’s by choice or because Sony expects frequent releases and they’re locked into that reputation now, who knows? Not to mention that awful leak they suffered. It’s an interesting situation though, because while everyone complains about dev cycles taking way too long these days, Insomniac is one of the few studios who don't have that issue. But they’re clearly running into serious design and testing problems with such a short window between titles.

As for Wolverine itself, I actually really enjoyed it despite its flaws. My main worry going in was the voice performance for Logan because Hugh Jackman is so iconic that anyone else could easily feel like a cheap imitation. But the actor made the role his own and was genuinely convincing. Good visuals, solid acting, fun story, and satisfying hack-and-slash gameplay, even with the obvious design issues. It didn't ruin the experience for me, and when I look back on the game I probably won't even remember those flaws. I'm not even trying to defend the bad design choices, it's clearly flawed in areas, just throwing my take into the void.

  10. 11:50 This highlights really well how bottom line profits heavily incentivize everything in our lives. Yes, absolutely they love giving you a no lose scenario because it's less work/$$ on their end and they can paint a bunch of misdirection so you don't realize what other possibilities there could of been. Tik Tok brain is also a huge culprit but I think it goes even deeper than that. They are lowering the bar and engineering a future that asks nothing of them. Just as newer gens more and more can't even fathom a world where you buy a game that doesn't require a subscription or microtransactions, the next gens after that will be convinced that Wolverine is the peak of capability. They are getting dumber on purpose.

Now we are entering the age of AI slop. Every game is in every other game. Your companions in the game will be AI. No one will experience the same game because AI will just react in whatever way you engage with it. Everything becomes Italian Fruit Meme. Don't like your game? Prompt a different story chapter.

Hold on to your fucking butts.
