Sorry this took longer than planned but the past few weeks have been weirdly thematic with the game's underwater setting.
i literally stopped a playthrough of this game when i accidently harvested a little sister it made me feel terrible and i had no recent save so i decided to just start over i was mortified by how the next little sister reacted to me.
I find it sad that you can play old System Shocks relatively hassle-free. But somewhat recent game – bugs, bugs and bugs.
While I can vividly remember playing 1, I have no memory of 2. Interesting.
This was always my favorite.
The 2nd one is mine favorite.
The Infinite review is bound to be interesting!

I'm glad Bioshock 2's stock has risen up to "as good as the first game but in different ways" over the years, and Infinite's stock has dropped further and further the more people think about it.

As someone who has, I believe, an order of preference for BioShock games inverse to the majority's (Infinite > 2 > 1 for me), watching these reviews has been both incredibly satisfying and frustrating. On the one hand, the attention to detail and production quality are easily the best parts of them, and the effort Mandalore puts into expressing his personal opinions always makes them understandable and convincing. On the other hand, I shudder at the thought of a horde of dipshits who will, once the Infinite review drops, will go on to infest every thread on the internet to tell smugly how my favourite game in the franchise is shite and how liking it makes me a moron… It's always rapturous in the online world. I suppose this is how it must have felt for anyone who disliked Infinite back when it released.
Of the three bioshocks, this is the best.

I know it is probably not true, but I like to think Gil alexander losing his mind and turning into a crazy eccentric evil industry entrepreneur has to do with the memory leaks from the first game and not about adam making you crazy. basically the same way memories and experiences from adam samples gets transmitted to the new users, being injected with all the adam of rapture doesn't make you like a gestalt of many humans and have all their skills, but basically turns your mind into a fusion of all personalities adam was taken from. since everybody in rapture has gone mad, being injected with all the adam of rapture will turn you into an absolute lunatic, as all their minds are completely broken. Which is what would have happened to Eleonor and what has actually happened to Gil.

The crossdressing guy who was doing so to hide his identity now does it because "binaries don't work for him" (completely character change), various suggestive dialogue was changed, Taken memes, and various lines like "Don't underestimate me." to "I'm no damsel in distress.".
it warms my heart seeing people in the comments thinking this is the best in the series, specifically for the story and themes. I always considered the theatrics of the first game kinda overloud, and the "intellectual" content not that interesting, but I guess that comes down to what subject matter you jive with. it's probably hard to not think the second game was concerned with more fundamental questions though, and it gave at least me brainworms relating to the incompatibility of utopia and free will. but that might be due to me not giving it much thought beforehand, heh

Imo this is the best bioshock game by far. The first game was great but not as good as this one and infinite… I was enjoying that game up until they whipped out the multiverse bullshit and that ending… just wow. Your choices meaning fuck all, but making it seem like they do up until the very end is one the worst designs I have ever seen in a game.
