  1. ai cant play chess because it doesn't have motive. it isn't 'chess' they are playing, so, whatever they are playing does not 'end chess,' Levy. get your shit together

  2. I even let ChatGPT and Claude(Sonnet:5.5) solve my own invented Theory called,"Queen's Discovery Check", which means to give a discovery check where the queen is the one who will move(last move) and the piece behind it(only a bishop, a rook or a queen)will give the check. This move is illegal in chess because, the queen is already giving a check and the king has to move away from that discovery check line.
    ChatGPT's initial claim was:
"So your “Queen's Discovery Check” is possible! It's a discovered check in which the queen is the moving piece and the piece behind it is the checker!"
    Claude's initial claim was:
"A queen standing between another queen and the enemy king would already be attacking that king along the same line, so that position would be illegal before the move, which means two queens can give check after one move only when one of them is newly promoted."
The Argument Fight between ChatGPT and Claude felt like Gojo vs Sukuna.💀Please, someone make this an edit!

  3. why is stockfish so good and the AI engines just getting better? if you've ever seen love potion #9 with tate donovan. at the end of the movie he describes a montage you get pumped then he's like nothing happened, she didn't show up, that's so much like the second game when you said but the engine played this instead. bummer. I see the first two moves but didn't see the rook coming down and not quite there yet for that one.

  4. I believe if you actually got in contact with some of these ai companies and gave time to train their llms a true classical chat bot tournament to fight for supremacy and good publicity they may actaully do it.

  5. With how polite and seemingly nice these llms are coming when do they become a life form like your pet at home and beyond this is really cool but ethical quandries soon coming with how fast these entities are evolving the ethical quandries are coming like a bullet train.

  6. I might be talking out my ass cuz I don't know your methodology here, but I think the correct intuition here re. the LLMs is that this is basically their blindfold strength. I get the sense that you did this by typing out chess notation moves turn by turn, and the models had to keep track in their "mind" the position of the pieces off of the sequence of moves.

Another way of doing this, that I think would make them play much better, is to start a fresh chat with a FEN of the position, and a prompt to simply "find the best move". You'd lose the dialog and multi-move "planning" thoughts, but I think going move-by-move is a closer parallel to the way people play, which is that we look at a board and pick the best move. not being able to "see" a board every turn is almost certainly holding them back from a couple hundo elo points.
