I like the progression system in every request online adventures for the PlayStation two. They were class mastery points you gain them after reaching max level and it helps you progress your characters power with more stats, etc. kind of like paragon points in Diablo as well.
Maybe for the longevity of early raids they add chase items, new sets or set-bonuses that unlock later corresponding Demi-bosses/Dungeons that can be farmed individually (with some built in type of prep) or with a small group to get some type of rare mount, pet, or slight quality of life upgrade. I know the ladder may take some of the adventure and companionship out of the game, but it will give players another thing to do horizontally while they wait for raids to reset initially and reasons to come back to the OG raid.
Another simple fix would be having OG raid material get power upgrades from future content at the extent of the item being consumed. So you’d have to go back to the raid to get it again.
it's not horitonzal progression, quit pretending it is
tbh idc what direction they take it in as long as they are responsive to feedback.
imagine some ppl coming into ur castle/hideout and they start setting up a whole camp ? sounds dumb af
When talking about horizontal progression, I keep hearing people advocate for small increases in power between raid tiers, and that concerns me. In Vanilla, Molten Core gear had an ilvl of 66, while Naxxramas gear averaged ilvl 86. Naxx gear, just 20 more ilvls, obsoleted MC gear.
Even an increase of just 2 ilvls per raid tier adds up. With 3 raid tiers per expansion, that's 6 ilvls every couple years, 12-14 in 4 years. Ultimately, older raids will be trivialized, just like Naxx did to MC, and that’s with an increase of just 2 ilvls per tier. I get that it's slower, but it still isn’t horizontal progression. Max-level raids should offer gear with interesting passives, procs, and on-use effects rather than higher ilvls. For example, MC could offer Fire Resistance gear that, six years later, is still a BiS or BiS adjacent option in a place like the elemental plane of fire. That keeps all raids relevant for the whole life of Forever.
One way to do raid gear is to expand your options. This raid gives a really interesting staff, that one gives a really interesting wand. They could really shake up how your class plays, so you can accumulate a range of playstyles within your class and spec. That's not to say nothing can be more powerful, but you could do a LOT with powerful raid gear. You could also do stuff like that Battlemage sword, where you get a raid loot weapon and you can get enhancements that turn it into something new. There's a lot you can do to give people options to customise their playstyle and make more niches at that top end of the game. Also there's all sorts of other cool things they could add to end game, like new demons for warlocks to summon, new spells and abilities that can be found, more stuff like the comprehension skill for different classes, finding components that can be combined into cool things.
Your intro is dumb. Grab coffee? I don’t drink coffee. Sit down? No, don’t tell me what to do, I’d rather stand.
Very hyperbolic video I know you gotta get them clicks in, but honestly, they didn’t confirm shit. They said small upgrades in a vertical progression system with some horizontal.
Small upgrades, no matter how slow and responsible are still vertical progression. Eventually, something is going to have to give either some kind of reset for gear or a low-key catch-up system or something. We still have no idea what is going to happen long-term because none of this will become a problem immediately. However, one, two, or even three years down the line after a bunch of updates and content drops when we are up to tier 3 or four or beyond that’s when people will start noticing the power creep and they said absolutely zip about how they will address that.
Right now it just seems like they’re flying by the seat of their pants, trying some things out to see how players respond to it and then making adjustments from there. Rather than having a solid game plan where they know what they are going to do not only now but five years from now.
A lot of players are banking on a straight up horizontal progression game and they are going to be sorely disappointed.
Fix dwarves
Make crafted gear only sellable to players or for 25% value to vendors
I like the idea of opening up new playstyle.
Look at sod! I loved both LnL hunter and Rapid Killing! Let's see things like that! (less power creep ofc) Trap launcher! This so so much fun for open world (and dungeon solo) farming.
*WHY can't Blizz focus power/gear levels based on time spent in-game!? *The longer/more you play – the more access you have to the most powerful items…SIMPLE. Balancing is already happening in Retail, why copy the same format!? Please end 'balancing' to accommodate the bleeding hearts. A veteran Martial Artist should be more powerful than an absolute beginner. What's complicated about that? Will there be a difference on the damage meters…absolutely.👍
All I want is an Orc Paladin, let Dakka the Righteous be.
Dungeon sets, tier sets should vary depending on the climate from which they were acquired. Also we have crafting recipes, class quests that could be tied to dungeons and raids from either drops or boss kills/ achievements. Like not letting a certain NPC die during a fight. Reputations unlocked from items scattered throughout the world, dungeons and raids. Those Reputation grinds could result in gear trinkets, upgraded spells and mounts.
Look at Osrs, do that, new bis releases like every year 1-3 slots at a time most of the time the new bis is lit 1 max hit or extra prayer or less gear weight.
What about a new SET of pieces that maybe unlock new abilities all together…..?
Farming gold is super easy, and I am not a streamer. Guys, I hate to break it to you, but some of the old methods still work, and there are some new secret methods. There will always be people with way more gold, even without gold buying. The rogue method is just one of many. I tested the rogue method and was making 40 to 100 gold per hour. 🤷♂️
Edit: It should also be noted that one of the reasons for sky high prices is because of this tournament during a beta, and because our levels are locked at 30, making higher end enchant mats artificially way more valuable. 120 to 200 gold for the neck enchant won't be a thing at launch, minor speed to boots won't cost 12 to 15 gold, 14 slot bags won't cost 25g to 50g (16 slots will barely be between 15 and 20), etc.
Horizontal Progression would be making the Raid and PvP tier sets fundamentally change the way your class plays without increasing your damage. It would be so much more fun to bring a set of gear to raid that plays differently and offers more utility than, "my gear do big damage number".
Here is the problem with those Gold farming options:
THE BOTS ARE DOING THAT ALREADY!
It's not only that, the bots will also report you if you undercut them, or try to do anything against their plan. They need to solve the Botting issue asap otherwise the game is DoA.
I wonder if a multi tier set bonus could work. Raid 1 stops at 2 piece bonus. Raid 2 goes up to 4 piece but only activates with 2 pieces of previous tier. 3rd tier could be 5 piece with 1, 2, and 2. I’d be interested to see.
Mix of both is ideal
Yea this is just the same ole trash just slower vertical progression. What people want is the open world as the star once at 60 it should be about cosmetics and stories. If they are going to do this I would rather play retail.
I liked the ghost wolf placeholder a lot more for sure.
Too be honest, I'd love to have first round of raids give really decent gear, dropping for all, then keep having more raids as we go that aren't so dependent of having new drops that come from them, just doing them and maybe having gear that makes you look different like the snake gear that drops now!
If you want to run with your raid on launch are they all going to be no lifing it? How long should they wait? 2 months? There would still be plenty of peopld running it. 1 month is fine. Day 1 is fine. Have some self control
delay raids 6 months lets goooo!
Tiny vertical progressions just seems like the same game we've been playing. Doesn't really seem new. Hmm.
Elemental shaman lighting should be able to hit like 10 targets. It would feel amazing to play and the damage would scale with the number of targets
IMO the best way to limit strictly vertical progression is to make the game HARDER as it goes on. Make end level content require more prep, more attention because of mob density, mechanics, etc as the game ages. The old gear still hits the same but you have to try harder.
What I want most is for gear made from proffesions to matter, and have more craftable gear. Not another empty given word of "proffesions matter" then you wake up and realise that the proffesion you should have picked up was either Alchemy or Enchanting.
I want to be able to make shields on Blacksmithing, as well as weapins and gear for tanking, DPS and healing for plate wearing classes and melee damage dealers.
To make misc items like mount shoes so my mount can have a 20% boost to its move speed.
Forgive the critique, but could you use a dark reader addon with your browser? That white background with black text is painful on my eyes.
You cant make everyone happy, all the time. But you can make some of the people happy, some of the time.
No to the gaining rep with the other faction…..ffs, it's retail all over again! We are not supposed to all get along! It's WARcraft. If Blizzard takes it this direction, then they lied about the classic feel. You want to play "everyone gets along" simulator, gtfo of classic and go back to retail. The only reason I returned to wow was for that classic "putting the war back in Warcraft."
Lets hope they stop people from listing a level 20 blue for 100g as well. That's another factor that is insane.
